Hey fellas, looks like the weathers going to be good this weekend and I'm off to Omaha.

Is it worth targeting kingi's at this time of the year? I will fish off the wharf opposite to Omaha at the entrance to the estuary.

I always start fishing on the incoming tide, is this the best time?

Otherwise, what fish are around this time of year or is it a waste of time? I've seen people surf casting off the rock groins at Omaha, but thats not as comfy as a wharf :)

Any help appreciated!

Worth going the yards to get the fish some people are just happy to get a line out and have a beer others want to go the extra yard to get the results.

About a month ago I saw a kingi in the harbour, as one leg said, you would be better off walking along that track for 15 mins, finding a nice rock ( nice big rocks out there) and your chances increase by about 462% of catching a fish. Incoming is best.

fished this wharf for twenty years and seen very few kingis landed due to the mooring chains out in front, sometimes you get lucky though.  The entrance to the harbour, a five min walk down the track to the left, can be a good option when the tide has dropped enough to get onto the outer rocks or further out towards Ti point itself.  Late summer is best time for kingis in harbour, but at the moment there should be good numbers of trevally around.  there was a post not so long ago from a guy who had a fairly good day round the rocks.

Ok, so if I go out on the rocks at a lower tide.. I'm likely to get stuck there when the tide comes in again?? I'm planning on going at night, and using lots of berly. Is morning better?

6 months or so ago, I went fishing off that wharf and hooked up on something rather large.

It took off and my ****ty rod was bent right over, then it came back (at speed) and went under the wharf and wrapped my line around the pylon, subsequently breaking it.

Probably a kingi or a stingray I imagine.. Was gutted when the line broke.

What day are you thinkin of going out for a fish?

If the weather stays like this I'll be hard pressed to stay away from Omaha. I like the groin for fishing off from the Omaha side either one will do.

Let me know if you'd like compnay, I keen to meet some more fishing friends as fishing by yourself is just not the same

that would be all you will catch from the groin the rocks around to the left are safe if you were to get traped there by the tide there is something wrong with how you fish ,not being nasty ,but if you go all the way to ti point why would you fish off the wharf , with great fishing 10min's away take the walk and have a look DB it will surprise you .

the rocks at the entrance would be the only place to avoid at night. they are the only ones that get cut off.  on the omaha side catches tend to be kahawai on outgoing tide.  if the isn't much boat traffic trying casting back towards the wharf, there is a hole which holds trevally on a dropping tide.

Ive seen lots of Guys fishing right at the end after a short walk over the rocks round the edge, I go just off the rocks on my Ski and have a good time with a fair few good size snaps. At this time of the year there are trevs around but havent seen any Kingis of late.
Heaps of Kahawai around the entranc. Just follow the Asian dudes they know where to go. High tide at 0630 and weather is good so hey why not.
just dont throw ya stinky bait at me as I go past on my Yammie OK???? Tongue

Thats the place I mean right off the end of the point facing out to the Barrier, heaps of tide but just watch the bricks. Ive lost a lot of gear there from my Ski. Still well worth it.

Doesnt look like the winds going to be to kind to the East Coast, we were thinking of heading up that way but 20knot Easterlies aren't the greatest. Good luck if you do end up there.

My last night fish off the groynes yielded half a dozen nice pannies... could have kept going, but that was enough. Is it true that access to the end of the sandspit is now blocked? I read it on here somewhere not too long ago.
