| Bought a new tyrnos 16 2 speed as an all rounder i.e. livebaiting, trollinng and jigging. What do you lot think of the tyrnos series, as it does not seem to get mentioned much in the lower end of the jigging realm? |

I haven't handled the Trynos 16 so can't offer an opinion except to say that so far, they don't feature in the jig world. Obviously made for trolling & live bait with a bit of speed jigging thrown in but I think you might have a challenge mechanical jigging. Shimano are notorious for short crank arms on light game reels like the TLD and others. Even the Trinidads and Torsas have crank arms slightly short but acceptable for live bait and other fishing forms.
For a general allrounder, you might have the perfect reel. ------------- give it death! |

Ive handled one in the shop and my first thoughts were for jigging. Its alot narrower than the big brothers, with strong drag. Slightly heavier than some jig reels, but about the same as some others so no real big deal there. See which of the other shimano handles from bigger reels will fit it, because as Chris says, shimano always seem to put dicky little handles on most reels. A longer handle will be better for trolling and live baiting anyway, as it gives you alot more leverage on the fish. Oh, and if the sales assistant recommends you dont upgrade, try not to listen to them. They will try and say it will strip gears. They have a twin dog (sort of) antireverse which always sits better with me than one way bearings, which is another tick in the box, for me anyway Aside from the handle issue, it will be great. Cheers guys, my mind is a little more at ease with giving this a crack
on the jigs this weekend out the back of the poor knights. Did a bit of
research on sourcing a longer handle that fits, but the 2peed gear on
the handle makes this a no go in suiting with other shimano parts. May
have to get one engineered by someone who is onto it with stainless. Hoping on some good reviews for ya there Benk, Kiaora ano. |

there Just a question - where do you guys set your drag lever drags whilst actually jigging? Like, how do you strike and set hook when you get hit? |

| This reel of mine is rated at 6kg of drag at strike, but I can easily get way more than that. However, when it is cranked up on strike it seems to create a bit of resistance on the wind up??? |

Lever drags have that problem, generally speaking more drag, more binding, inherit problem unfortunatly. You want to be running minimum of 8kg start up drag, unless fishing on sandy bottom or the fish arnt particularly big. When fishing in places where big fish are probable I use about 13kg start up or there abouts, but generally about 8-10kg startup for most fish, but adjust accordingly depending on the fight, i pretty much never go down in drag once hooked up though. Just wind her up till its hardish to pull line off the reel and adjust on the fly. | I purchased tyrnos 30 for jigging approx 1 year ago when I didnt know what I know now about jigging. Awesome reel and I have caught my fair share of fish. Although it is quite a big reel and does have a short handle as not your typical jig reel. but has served me well but am now looking at upgrading to oj4000p probably only because that is what the experts reccommend as top of the line and they are a lot more compact and a bit more friendly on the body when jigging all day. |
