the reason you wouldn't have heard about it on "one newz" Torsa was because it was caught in Aus.
Here's the text>>
Howdy you guys have to see this it's huge.(Just for you Winga you talked me into it) this could be the biggest snapper thats ever been filmed on video being caught. Caught by Stuart Sluggett from near Mildura in Vic while fishing with Fuzzells Fishing Adventures on Saturday way out in the 30mt gutters where the buffalos roam. 36lb was ths 1st fish of the day then this monster came from a 4 way hookup which lasted a good 15 minutes of total mayhem. only 2 of the 4 fish were landed, 2 tangled each other & 1 was lost boat side while tangled & estimated to be in mid to high 30lb mark, the other on kept running & was bust off. The initial weight of this fish was at 42lb but after checking the scales used to weigh it against 2 sets of salter scales & also doing a comparison with buckets of water at the local butcher shop with scales certified for trade use this fish weighed 44lb, yes 20kg. It is going to be mounted for all to see & once done will live on the wall at Hotel Arno for all to see.

wawawewaaaaaaaaa. judging by the intro, this guy doesn't seem to realise this is the biggest snapper of all time, let alone the biggest filmed being landed. Na, I don't by it- I fish, therefore I lie. 34lb

Long john what photo are you talking about?Sorry mate dont do A class let alone B or C and you are quiet right the tail section is to fat for the rest of the fish and he isnt a small guy . The video was a crack up 44lb do you think he would have lifted a 20kg snapa out of the water with the net the way it was lifted ,it was a alloy net and probly would have snapped.

Isn't it 17.2kg by Mark Hemmingway (Mt Sportfishing Club - good club that ) caught somewhere near Motitii about 10 years ago.... and from memory it was on 10kg mono.
In regards to that fish above - I believe it, as they get some real monsters over there - probably more, no definitely more 30lb+ fish than we do here. The only doubt I have though, is beacuse the skipper didn't insisted on it being weighed legitimately - which you would surely if you knew it was up around the 40lb mark...

When you look at the size of this baby why would you super impose a snap onto a photo and add it to a book called Snapper Habitats. I would have said at least 70lb and that would be worthy of the wall Rumour goes its 60lb so if general consenses is its fake then Burwood i owe you a BEER

Roto, I'm not saying that picture posted by Torsa is a fake or that it is not a 60lber+, but you don't need photoshop to create the same effect. If you have the fish much closer to the camera and especially with a wide angle camera lens, a fish will look much bigger that it actually is. If you look at the pic that kezza posted, its suggests that the snapper is as long as the diver's shoulders but we know that it is not because the arms are clearly extended towards the camera.
Sorry to go off topic, but thought I'd clarify this.
Cheers,
Clarence

Hey Boys
surely you can see the size of this fish & yes it is twice the size of your 10kg snapper?
2 x 10kg = 20kg's. this monster is fat, thick & healthy.
the snapper initially weighed over 19kg on a set of scales that weigh over 1kg light(i've checked them against sets of scales used for trade & 42lb on my scales pulls their scales to just over 44lb) this is for real, no trick photos holding fish out at arms length, you ever held something 20kg out at arms length for any time.
The guy who caught it is a big man over 6ft & i reckon 120kg easy.
this is another pic of the 2 snapper together. bottom 1 initially weighed over 36lb, top 1 initially weighed 42lb....can you see the difference? both fish over 110cm, bottom is sloghtly longer
cheers

But 44 pounds?, compare that to a 45 pound kingi and its looks a little on the small side. It does look very big in that last photo, In fact I hope it is over 40 pounds just sets the bar a bit higher for us over here.

Thanks Uncle!
Judging from pic in the catalogue, the weight markings on the scale goes all the way up to BigAsh's (congrats by the way! ) forefinger. The fish has thus pulled the mark down approximately 4/5 of the way. We know that because of the size of the fish, it is highly unlikely that the scale is the 20lb version, so it must be the 50lb version. Therefore the fish is roughly 40lb?

these are 50lb scales, 2lb increments on rh lane
bottom is 50,48,46, & scales are between 44 & 42lb
as i said before these weigh over 1kg light, even if theyre right it's still over 42lb.
My 1st thoughs were mid 30's until we weighed it & compared it to the 36lb that we already had i was apparent the extraaaaa thickness.

Love to Big ash but the swim is just a little to far! Can you give us a little info on Arno bays fishing season best times for snaps and other species do you travel up from Adelaide ?
|
Posted By: bigash
Date Posted: 22 May 2008 at 11:04am
|
yeah
best time for Arno Bay snapper is generally summer where you can catch fish well over 20lb close to shore in 10-15ft of water or even off the rocks. Out deeper 30-45kms offshore into the spencer gulf( a bit over 100km's north of port lincoln) the snapper bite all year round, it's just a matter of locating the big schools. fish 18-20lb are caught nearly every trip at the moment with the occasional school of whoppers. my last 5 trips the biggest fish of the day have been 23lb,18lb,44lb,22lb & 24lb. you can't get much better than that & i'm only the backup skipper. Arno Bay is about 5hrs drive west of Adelaide or like i said just over an hr north of port lincoln. plenty other species to be had king george whiting, snook, squid, trevally, mullaway etc but snapper is the main target & more & more people wanting to catch them on soft plastics. SP's are the best fun, nothing better than reeling in a 20lb snapper on 10-15lb line, makes the fight worth while
cheers
