Over Xmas i was staying at our holiday place at bland bay, and got out fishing quite a few times. The fishing was good, with alot of 4kg snapper being caught on a regular basis.. On one trip we fished on the reef off Home point, and caught a range of fish...Any help with identifying some of the pink ones??
Never caught either of them before...but they both tasted ok..

Odd to catch 2 tattooed pinkies-they're the guys with the black splotches. The theory is that they are full mature males and I'd guess they occur at a ratio of 1:50 or less of the population. So perhaps they are taking the bait/lure out of aggression, given that you've managed two out of three?
Either way, on eating a pinky, you'll find yourself strangely attracted to other blokes. It'll pass.....maybe. If not, there are some fine ' all male revues' on K road.

Interesting Long John, I didn't notice the tatooed ones till you mentioned it.
I was reading a while ago in fishing news or somewhere that they wanted some down at te papa or something to find out more about them.
In the hundreds I've been plagued with at times I think I've only caught one.

The tatooed Pinkies are quite common in that area especially down at Danger rock. When I was helping Craig Worthington catch fish for Kelly Tarltons years ago we used to catch quite a few of them there. We never caugh the tatooed ones out at the Poor Knights when you were allowed to fish there before the eco nazis shut the place down.

Rusky (Fishnet member) was enquiring about these Pinkys with blotches on them not long ago. He was after information for his university study. He could shed some light on their distribution and behavior.
