Hi Jimi what size hooks and split rings do you use?
 
Great idea above I don't have that pistol grip on mine so I have been using the main mounting leg on my stella kinda does the same thing just marks the reel a bit.

sweet! A cable tie looped in another cable tie around the rod butt does the same thing too and no hole in the palm grip

Yip the owner ring's are top notch, but check out these bad boy's got them in Aus ,the photo is pretty bad.

i just whack the gape of the hook around the back of the trigger grip and there you go held safely in place.
