I'm going to be targetting kings this summer with an SL50SH and 15kg gear, with jigs do I need to go Braid or will Mono work fine. I'd like to fish IGFA rules if possible.

Mono will work, but not as well.

I used to jig with 10kg nylon which was like a bungy cord. Had to work alot harder to get the jig to move right but still caught plenty of fish.

Half of the fun for my when jigging for kings is getting slammed around when they first hit the jig with braid, pretty brutal (and fun Big%20smile), you dont get the same thing with mono.

Personally, id got with 30lb braid and stuff the IGFA rules. I dont know if I would go to 50lb with that reel, havnt had much experience with them, but I suspect if you did things would start falling to bits pretty quick. Mono wont be so tough on your gear.

Be veeeeeerrrrrryyyyyyyyy careful though. Once you take up jigging, everything else seems pretty boring, and its hard to stop buyng all the nice shiny gear LOL

Yeah me too!

You need the non-stretch braid to not only work the jig easily, but the fight is transmitted to you far better.  Even rat kingies put up a decent fight, something that bungy-cord mono just does not convey well.  Couple this with light weight, responsive, elastic-graphite rods and small powerful reels and you have a recipe to be sucked into the jig fishing forever.

As Benk suggests, flag the IGFA unless you are really interested in records etc.   Enjoy the fight!
