I decided to revert to form and fish off the Waiu Pa boat ramp yesterday morning. When I got there around 0830 it was pouring with rain and I stood at the top of the steps feeling like a right prong. Still, the kingfishers were fishing, the toohies were toohing, the sh*tehawks were ....well you get the picture. So I put one line out with a pillie on it, just to feed the crabs and baited up my favourite flasher rig (JW 1/0) with strips of very smelly squid. Over the side and bang, a fighting kahawai around 3lb. 20 mins later and bang another kahawai around 4lb. Boy can those blighters scrap.

Not much after that, but you could almost walk across on the baitfish, including some huge eels. Fish cakes for tea. Yummy.

Well done Grounded. I went out the last two nights and caught a couple as well, good fun on light gear. I'm using 6lb line at the moment.

Club night tonight.... you going?

Sorry, Smudge, had to work. Need to pay for that VHF somehow!
