Excellent site guys.  I wonder whether you had considered the effects of your policy to require members to make 25 posts before being able to upload pictures?  I am sure that a lot of the "congratulations" and awesome fish" type posts are nothing more than people trying to rack up their 25 posts.
Regards,
Mike

... Since writing the above I see it only takes 15 posts before you can upload pictures.  Wish I could get out fishing now.  Maybe then I would have some  pics of my own to upload.
I also  noticed that the guys posting messages of congrats, support and encouragement have lots of posts so my whinge was basically a load of cr#p.  Great site guys don't take any notice at all of me.

How's about changing the Super14 forum to a Sports forum so we can post up any general sports stuff we like (we seem to do that in there anyway but doesnt seem to be taking up too much space so far)

And maybe even an OffTopic section for posting such as the links to the various youtube and website funnys that pop up from time to time?

Not sure if this has been mentioned before. Through the endeavours of forum members organising printed shirts and beanies (which I dont have) has anyone thought of getting the website stickers done, that one can display of cars boats etc, good way to further advertise this site.

I have had a couple of stickers done recently as it happens Tzer - we're just looking at some design aspects for the website masthead and then could do a reasonable run if there's enough interest.  Is anyone keen to be involved in the merchandise aspect of the site - if so give me a shout as there is a good opportunity with beanies etc and we have a supplier who can get us some excellent quality gear.....

How are the stickers coming along Grunta ?

I find it is annoying how the search defaults to show results as 'posts' instead of 'topics'.

I like having a list of topics more, find it easier to find what I am after.

Hi Grunta...
Just had a look at the html source page for forum members settings.. in particular the " Location"  choices... It would be a simple matter to change the "Select Country"  to "Select Location" and removing the country entries and replacing them with NZ locations... More conducive to the site and gives a better idea of members locations for possible fishing trips etc...

Ginge does that stuff so I'll talk to him and see what's involved.

The search facility doesn't allow searches of less than 3 characters yet we have handles of 2 e.g. "MJ". This prevents you trying to find
posts by MJ. It is therefore impossible to find the post if you cannot remember which thread you saw it in. Even if you go to his profile, you cannot find his posts.

Grunta.... back in May I mentioned re having the ability to post ones location in the members list... I have seen many occasions where fisho's location is not known when arranging possible fishing trips and meetings etc...  can anything be done about this ???

Sorry about the delay on this guys - quite simply I'd missed it - thanks Uncle for the heads up!

Re location:  The forum software we use has to be customised. Every time we change versions, all that customisation has to be put into the new version, tested and the bits that no longer work in the new version re-coded.....  We're just going to Version 9.05 and that has had a heap of changes so this one has been really costly.....  It's a good idea though and is on the list of things to improve.

Re: PM's plus images - you can link somewhere to a pic (like a post you have made on the site) but the current version of the software doesn't support pics in PM's.  E-mail would be a better option for sending pics or something like skype.

Re Page:  Start a thread on that very topic in the boating section John as a short term option and if there's enough interest, we'll look at something a bit more comprehensive......

How about creating a off topic forum for random non fishing related topics, at the moment they are mainly posted in the forum for saltwater fishing forums.  Or turn the "Rugby Forum" into the"Off Topic", the rugby forum is rarely used.

One thing that’s been bugging me for a while now is the active topic function which doesn’t seem to always work. Often (But not always) when I click on it it shows the first page fine but when I go to try to see the second page of unread posts it resets my time and so shows no new posts.

When I am searching back to try and find old posts (Say posts with Whangarei from the past year in the fishing report forum) it times out and can't give me search results. (Seems to happen on almost all "in the last year" searches.) Would be great to be able to do this.

I’d also love better organized fishing report forums (Reports by area)  to make it easier to know the area someone is talking about before opening the post.

Haydan. I have experienced exactly the same problem with "Active Topics", I thought it was just my Internet browser so had not complained about it.

Searching often generates errors for me also.

Yup I've got the Active Topics problem too- thought it was either due to my slow internet connection or cookie settings.
It does not happen all the time but usually (not always) when the pages I 've clicked on are still loading, and I click on second or subsequent pages.

That may be it Sooshe, I have noticed it does it less often when I leave the first page alone for a while. I have a pretty quick connection though, I think the slowness issue maybe on the server side? Would explain the search timing out as well.

I've put a thread up this in this section but it would be good to be able to save a buddy list of people we meet up with or have plans to for fishing where we can can edit the buddy list with information. Boulder did advise we could send the email to ourselves which is a means to an end to save info but seems a little redundent to have to go through to a third party client to get information on members when it would be alot easier to log into the site and be able to get numbers and whatever else we have stored for specific members.

i see in another thread that the long term goal for the website is to make an online type fishing club with benefits etc for members.. how about a thread that states where such benefits are avilable to members and what benefits are available.maybe a card as proof of membership is nessecary for any such discounts, perhaps a sub thread for members to suggest reasonable requests to such sponsers etc...

Just a little idea for consideration.....
A locked automated gallary topic pined at the top of each section..

i.e. If I post a pic on a thread in the "Fishing Reports" section, that pic is auto inserted to the gallary topic pined at the top of the "Fishing Reports" section.

Also if possable add a link button to the pic for direct access to the thread it was posted in.
This gallary could be done with thumbnails so you must access the thread were it was posted to see the pics full size, This would promote the viewing of threads with pics.

This could be handy in threads were people are looking at products or Howto's and or maybe to move some product were applicable.....

This could also give us away to have a quick look at the latest posts with pic for those days when "Time just is not on your side"......
Or could serve as a  quick reference back to a post you were in before but can't remember the name or date of but can remember the pics you were looking at.....

"That my idea for the month" now back to having no idea again........

Any thoughts on a "weather report thread" as a sub maybe to the Briney Bar...  the idea being the guys could post what the weather , wind and sea state conditions were like in their area.. Boaties...rock hoppers.. surfcaster folk could place a request to other members... eg someone from Auckland heading north to the bay of islands for the weekend and someone in the area could advise.. or someone in any area could simply post a report for others to see...

Here's a thought. It would be good if there was less space taken up at the top of the page. where the Fishing net logo is and below that a space for an ad. Because, on laptops, which are very common now, this reduces the space below for the stuff we actually want to read - thus requiring more scrolling down.

and why are the pages so short? You can scroll down and get more adds.

Picked this up from the Sydney Angler forum. Thought it was worth sharing. One of the reasons why I generally like the posts on fishing.net.nz and why I detest many of those posted on the various Facebook fishing sites.

Sydney Angler was started by a group of fishos in the interest of promoting a culture of mateship and fishing for fun. A fundamental part of the site philosophy is self regulation i.e. a site without a list of 'rules' as long as your arm.

This approach has without doubt made this site the best fishing portal on the internet. Unfortunately though, this freedom has come at a price being the lowering of our standards, in particularly with regard to the proliferation of low quality and meaningless posts.

To arrest this decline the following code of conduct has been developed by the administration team. The code is not 'hard and fast' however the admin team reserve the right to delete any post/thread that contravenes the code. Repeat offenders will be banned from the site.

1) Spelling and punctuation
Make an effort to adhere to the basics of the English language. Posts where clearly no effort has been made with regards to spelling, grammar and punctuation will be deleted immediately. This is not intended to punish or discriminate against accidental spelling mistakes or those whose spelling skills are less strong (see note below). It is about making an effort.

2) SMS/Text Language
Any post containing GenY/SMS style language will be deleted immediately and the poster deleted from the site. Don't post it because it will be deleted.

3) Have a Point
This is difficult because some of the best threads are the most trivial. That being said, post or threads that are meaningless, idiotic or add no value will be deleted.

4) Sharing is Caring
Sharing of information, fishing spots and any relevant fishing information is central to the ethos of SA.

6) No Idiots
Dickheads, retards and idiots will be banned without notice.
