http://www.howesurfskis.com/html/extasea.html - http://www.howesurfskis.com/html/extasea.html
this one is currently at the top of my 'which one to get?' short-list.

will essentially be a dive boat - but want to be able cover some ground quickly so have settled on a long glass hull.

anyone had any experience with these, or got any thoughts/opinions on it?

also considering:

Kaskazi Dorado - but dont really go for the fish bin and lack of draining ****pit.

Paddleyak Kingfisher - rear deck layout really doesnt suit.

thanks
m

The bad news is they're about AUD $3,000.00. Unhappy

And then you've got shipping to NZ... about NZD $600 to $700 plus Customs fees, Duty and GST.

Duh Embarrassed... I forgot to take the Aussie GST off. So yeah, you're about right on the price there BH. If you can get the shipping costs down, then you might be on to a winner. Thumbs Up

Goodonya BH... that's one sweet looking yak for sure. Looking forward to your impressions of it once it arrives. What sort of construction do they do - polyester or epoxy resin layup?

She looks like you could fish the barrier on a day return with the speed you'll get out of that one. Yeap she looks hot..

finally the new boat is here. picked it up from the freight depot at the airport last night.

we had some delays getting the thing built - they had a bad run of weather, and we were concerned that all the wet weather would affect the epoxy composite layup and drying - and then the MAF fullas spent the best part of a week trying to decide if there were any spiders in it...Stern Smilebut it was worth the wait.

was very happy to see it 100% apple-pie condition once i got the wrapping off it at home - i now have a life-time supply of bubble wrap at home if someone is wanting some...Wink

initial impressions are... its big! 5.5m long but only 60cm at widest. certainly a well thought out, quality product - to a semi-educated eye, there is just the right amount of glass in it - plenty in the key areas and a minimum where it is superficial. a couple of internal bulkheads for piece of mind. some nice touches too - internal rudder lines sealed in against the hull for example.

will try to get some pics up later today - before she goes off to have an internal fish-bin put in.

Bounty
Whereabouts are you. I saw a car yesterday with a very long kayakey shaped thing made out of bubble wrap, on the roof. My mind is gone blank at the moment but it was somewhere between Titirangi and Mt Wellington as that is as far as I strayed yesterday. But it made me think "man! thats as long as my Cobra Triple" and then "man! its been 6 weeks since I took the yak out fishing" so it prompted me to go home and sort out the gear to be ready for the weekend.
Good luck they are a nice machine and thanks for the indirect encouragement.

BH, have you taken the extrasea for a lash yet? I am thinking of getting one to complement my P15 and after initially reading on here you had ordered one thought I would wait and let a you try one first. I am from the opposite side of OZ to where they are made and as such cannot organise a test paddle. They certainly are a sweet looking boat. Lack of secondary stability is my only real concern with them.

Catch ya Scott

it looks alot like a kayak i got about 6 months ago cheap that needed a bit of tlc, really fast but a bit tippy for fishing .i made an ama or outrigger up out of fibreglass and foam it that goes under a couple of aluminum clips and a wing nut and sit just out of paddling range for when i go fishing .it goes like a rocket ,catches them long swells easy as and has plenty of stabillity ,enough to break 50 pound longline trace with out even looking like tipping.not much room but as its a sit in but i mostly handline anyways and a bag of bait sits in the mid hatch and the fish slides down to the front bulkhead .after seeing yours im thinking of converting it to a sit in Smile

actually it looks like its got plenty of secondary stabillity and not  as much primary as the usual fishing kayaks .bonus is if you get caught in the rough stuff this kayak will get you home no problems
