Hiya folks - after being a yellow-raincoated read-only skulker for a few months, I have now decided to comes out of the closet to join the discussion forum....... I am reasonably new to the fishing/boating scene - only been fishing for a couple of years now. Have some serious catching up to do! Mostly fish from boat and kayak. This is a truly great site, with lost of info and advice. Talking about advice, recently had a bit of a mishap with our auxiliary engine, and broke the mounting on one side. This is a 1986 Suzuki DT8 (8 hp). Any ideas on where second hand spares for something like this can be found around Auckland?. All advice would be greatly appreciated. Cheers

would nice to get some info from you both if you kayak in auckland area. so far i've fished the kawakawa bay area and done alright. would like to fish the manakau but only if i can find someone else suicidal! ------------- . |

CJ, I don't own a kayak but it is one of those things I am considering getting my hands on along with a boat. I'm more interested in using a kayak for landing at remote rock spots. I think a couple of the other guys are using Kayaks around East Coast Bays What type of kayak are you using? ------------- Keep knockin', nobody's home. |

kingfishsi, ive got a Q-kayaks Escapade. had them put two rod holders in it for me. it really works well to fish from. as a way to get out to rocky points it works great. thats what first inspired me to get it, was sitting on a rocky point fishing and along comes this guy on a kayak, he paddled over from the next point where , of course, i figured there must be better fish. i packed up my gear and started hiking. 45 minutes later i realized you can't get there from that side, there was a big rock faced inlet you can't see from where i was. so i hiked back to where i was, just as it was time to head home. and this guy had paddled over in about ten minutes. you can carry a lot more gear then you'd think. check the new kayak line they sell at, not joking, payless plastics near botany downs. they have alot of internal storage with a large hatch, almost fit a chilly bin. ------------- . |

KingfishSi/CJ I have a Perception Swing kayak, fitted a rod holder, a small anchor and have a few other bits and pieces. I mainly fish off Browns Bay because I live here and it is easy to launch from the beach. I have also fished off Stanley Point (launching from Bayswater marina) with success and also in the Whangarei harbour. I think the most important thing about a kayak is to get one that is comfortable for you. Canoe & Kayak in Mairangi Bay was really good in letting me try different ones. I liked the Perception Swing because it is stable, and because it is quite long, it is also quite fast and easy to paddle - suits my lazy nature. Now I just have to convince the wife that you can fitt a fishfinder to the kayak.... Thanks Barrie, will give Glenn Eden Marine a call. Cheers Stingray |

Hi Stingray Another pace to try for suzuki spares is The Engine Room in Freemans Bay down by the viaduct. Their phone # is 09 3582248. I was told (AFTER I had bought my boat) that there was no agent for Suzuki ob's at that time, but a mate put me onto these guys. Cheers Snuffit |

Hey guys.... how about starting up a NEW thread for Kayak Fishin'....I know there are lots of peeps out there with interest in this aspect, but might not look at at thread titles "outboard Spares" perhaps photos of your rigs and different set ups....i know of a few that have fish finders and GPSs installed.....whoa.....overkill perhaps?......anyways Just a thought..... welcome Snuffit....good to have ya onboard as well!!! ------------- I am Kermit, Leader of Muppets Nov 05 |

heya kerren, was gonna ask about a kayak thread, i know quite a few guys fishing out of kayaks, surpised me. i think it is a good idea! always better to have company when kayaking too, much safer and you can tie up with your paddles and make a makeshift catamaran which would likely be alot more stable, john ------------- . |
