Justin at Oakura bay (he runs a charter boat there), Whangaruru hbr rents out a tinny with o/b, I think around $10 an hr, there is also a bloke at marsden point but can't remember his name.

This time of the year Oakura bay should give you some good fish in areas you can reach in a small tinny and I'm sure Justin would point you in the right direction. Its about a 3 hr drive north of auck.

CJ

If you are looking at the Coromandel - try http://www.papaaroha.co.nz/index_papaaroha.htm">http://www.papaaroha.co.nz/index_papaaroha.htm

I have hired their 3.6 MAC ($90 for the day) and got a good feed without venturing too far.

They will also water taxi you to the islands for landbased.

Hi CanadianJohn

Somewhere in Whangaparaoa there is a place that rents out a tinny for $80 per day. I only saw it briefly at Army Bay and didn't pay much attention to it. It seemed a decent size. Sorry I can't be more helpful with the name of the company. Maybe Deepsea knows. Even better, you could pay less than that and go out on one of his charters.

C J slipper island is a ten minute boat ride after the Tairua, Puanui bar, I used to work out there and regardless of what anyone says its a top spot its a magic place and to catch fish you only have to fish ya feet....
try www.slipperisland.co.nz i know they are in the phone book and its easy to arrange for the managers on the island to pick ya up and drop ya off from Tairua's smaller wharf they also have five first class chalets out their for those with a larger wallet. great thing is only those who stay on the island fish the island, talk about peace and serenity worth it just for the stress relief.
