Hi all, bit quiet on the catch reports lately on here probably due to the fact its winter with weather, sea and wind usually against us fisho's.. Well i struck a good day on Tuesday got up early and hit the water before 8am. Had Hinga with me again and we were targeting big Snaps as usual. She put in the effort the day before and caught a few Kahawai from our river jetty which was great having fresh bait to start with! Unfortunately the tide was against us with a 6.30am high we were fishing the outgoing.

Generally its dead till well after the half tide when the current starts running again. This proved the case as the first two hours, zilch.. Apart from loading up on more fresh Kahawai mid water. The way I fish I never bother dropping a flasher rig to the bottom for pannies as my passion is bigger fish! They are there all the time though like any spot. We didn't have any action apart from sharks till 10.30am when i had a medium run and hooked into a nice 5kg snap! Hinga followed shortly after with a similar size and before long we had four.

I decided to go extra big on the baits, that's half Kahawai's the head end, as we had over ten Kahawai by this stage. Half an hour later i got a taker and the line started inching off my reel picking  pace rather quick... With big head baits you have got to let them go for ages before putting the brakes on. By the time I did the fish was thirty to forty odd meters out the back and hooked! Straight away i knew it was a good one! Big weight on rod and screaming runs. I said to Hinga get the net ready when this comes in sight were going to need it. She got it first go and couldn't believe seeing it in the net! It did look good in the boat though and was the biggest Snap she had ever seen! I was happy getting another good size one as wellThumbs Up It went 12.36 kg.

Things didn't stop there shortly after that one I hit another goodie, this time a 10 kg fish which I quickly unhooked and released.  Hinga chimed in with an 8 kg then as low tide approached and the current eases the fishing went quiet again so we called it a day at 2pm. Ive included a photo of hooking into a big one, it shows the angle of how far from the boat I strayline. Dont be shy of casting baits as far as you can. The other two, me struggling to hold fish up with one hand and after weighing at the butcher shop. Cheers...

Hi All, thanks for all the great  replies much appreciated... Im not sure who changed the title of my post but would appreciate next time asking me first.. The way I think a 12 kg Snapper is a good one and have caught many. I just live in a place where big Snaps are still plentyful and by technique and patients anyone can catch them the same  but most fisho's here  use other methods and dont catch them. Massive doesnt even enter my head as i class one over 30lb as huge or massive. Thats one of the main goals why I fish, appart from being addicted!  the rest is providing food for everyone, fun and helping others catch big Snaps.  I say to my Wife-Heidi every trip before i go out in the little Mac boat today could be 30lb day! Ive been saying it since 2012, the last time I caught one! Maybe this year!Thumbs Up

That was me Geoff as it just needed a light edit. Patients are the crowd at your local A&E. Patience is what you need while you wait to be seen. Thumbs Up
