Hi Guys, My first post here and just looking for a bit of guidance please in the Challenger fishery. I'm from Marlborough and am a keen spearo, and slightly less keen fisher!.
I know blue cod have to be landed in a measurable state - OK gutted but must be landed whole...but does this apply to any other finfish species?

Also, does anyone know if a recreational take on Paua from the Kaikoura fishery has been approved by MPI for 2025 please?

These are the rules for Kaikoura area. Yes - there is a paua season.
Measured fish - you will see they state minimum length. So you would have to be able to convince them that whatever fillets you have comply with the minimum length. I  have seen somewhere , where a guy took pics before filleting, against the measure board. Dunno if this is enough or not. You would have to prove they related to the actual catch and not last weeks pics.

If your local rules mention "Measurable state " that means you must bring them in whole or gut n gilled at the most.
If "Measurable State " is not mentioned, you may fillet at sea, but it is up to you to provide evidence of their length before you took the fillets off. If you can not provide sufficient information required, a fisheries officer may decide to confiscate them. The onus is on you too provide evidence to back your case.
