Morning all. Just looking at getting a new rig which will be second hand.
Just wondering what age and how many hours on an engine would start to be of concern to you. Seems to be a lot of conflicting info out there regarding this.
Particular engine on the boat in looking at is 2002 Yamaha hpdi 200 that has done about 500 hours.

Thats the problem with older motors,we dont use our vessels enough as short trips to catch a fish unlike overseas,my 90hp mariner 2005 155hrs which we put 55hrs on in 2yrs,short trips. todays motors 1500/2000hrs?

I'd be more concerned about the age of that motor rather than the hours.

I wouldnt buy a hpdi  at that age ( specially if you have to pay a mechanic to do any work needed ). I been lookin at US boating forums ..... not that I value their opinion that much , just that there is a lot of opinion , might be worth a look at the service/repair section to see if you can gauge longevity / reliability  from their input .
And  just while we are here  ......dont buy one of them Johnson Ficht motors either LOL
