Apologies if this has already been discussed, but I am looking for a strong rod which can take a bit of abuse, is suitable for jigging or putting on small live baits and isn't too long 6-7ft (is setup for spinning). I enjoy fishing around New Plymouth and often fish off the wharf and an off the rocks, targeting John Dory, occasional gurnard, kahawai and snapper.  Due to the large amount and types of rods I am rather confused on what to purchase, what would be your recommendation.

thanks.

If you're going to abuse it (at least you're honest!), you may as well go cheap and replace it every so often. Fibreglass can take the knocks better than graphite.

Something like this? It's a travel rod (never a bad thing), but ticks the boxes.

MB's suggestion of Ugly Stik is a good one. You can find some suitable Ugly Stiks around $100 in 1-piece if you look around.
