Hi I am hoping to be moving to Masterton in the near future from the UK and would like to know if there is anywhere nearby to fish for carp. I was wondering if it is worth me bringing my fishing tackle with me.

Can't answer your question, but bring your gear. Even if you don't find any carp, it may have other uses.

Im not sure what sort of carp we got ..... Koi carp  , but there are  better tasting fish that are more fun to catch. Come down south and catch a 30lb canal trout Smile

There are indeed better tasting fish to catch, but I doubt a 30lb canal trout is one of them LOL

4 or 5 years ago they introduced grass carp in Henley lake but they seem to have gone now. They tried introducing them in the UK but they were not a success and had to be removed but other carp are fine. Anyway it does not look as if it will be worth bringing my tackle over.

Have a look at the fresh water section. Might find some answers there.

Just taking the piss. I love trout fishing, eating them less so, but a well conditioned fish such as those from Rotoiti will end up on my dinner plate. Those pigs from the canals kind of look like carp LOL
