I got so many choices about which predatory fish the government should add next to NZ's waters once the native fish and freshwater ecosystem problem has been solved in the future.
Largemouth Bass

Ssogari(chinese perch)

Smallmouth Bass

Asp

Sheefish(nelma or inconnu)

Murray cod

I left out the toothy ones such as pike and zander because their teeth might pose a problem to anglers unhooking them by hand, and the salmonoids such as dolly varden or huchen because we have enough of these fish

The more fishing opportunities the better as far as I'm concerned, but you're living in dreamland! Up until very recently, there was a credible political threat to the trout and salmon fishing already in existence. That threat has not completely gone away and there are plenty of people out there who would like to see the removal of non-native fish. For what reason? To protect native fish species that have no value outside of a fritter. If people are so concerned about non-native species in New Zealand, they should remove themselves.

Kinda glad neither of you two make decisions regarding the future of NZ.

You can go oversea and catch any of the species you desire..... No where else on the world can you see Giant Kokopu, Banded kokopu or a few  other Galaxidee native to NZ.... Why F that up?

Why would you want to? Boring fish of no interest to the sport angler. This is a fishing forum after all. That said, your opinion is just as valid as mine and no doubt, the mainstream view.

Buy a tiny fly rod from ebay, aliexpress or temu, head deep into the bush and catch kokopu. Here's a good example:

Always release the fish!

I watched a mate  catch one in English bay, Opua. It lived in a culvet  that runs down the side of the road. I had turned up for a coffee and chat, and heard him laughing and hollering to himself as he played  the Kokopu that ate bacon on a hook... Made us both smile. Released afrterwards to patrol the culvit  like a guard dog.

Cool fish IMO

Fishing politics aside, I would love to catch one too!

Yes we have very different fish that are native but they aren’t in NZ to be interesting or of fishing value to one person or another. Problem is we have so many destroyed rivers and dairy won’t be going anywhere soon so if we could bring in freshwater eating and gamefish that can tolerate the pollution we could have a win win
