Good day everyone. I'm in the market for either a drone or a kontiki. Please help me make up my mind. I'm leaning towards a drone but I'm also interested in a kontiki. The question is which one?

A good drone is pretty expensive. I was talking to a local last summer and was really impressed with his set up. An electric reel, a flash drone and it performed really well. He paid 9k for it. Don't be tempted to buy one of those too cheap to believe drones from China.  Kitno probably has some experience with the torpedo type long lines. I certainly wouldn't get one of that 'as seen on tv' ones.

I'd recommend getting a drone over a kontiki. I have both & the kontiki hasn't been used for a fair while now. I tend to use the drone as the gear takes up so much less room in the vehicle & is quicker & arguably easier to set. It's also easy to walk in to spots you can't drive too. Don't need to worry about swell size quite the same but wind can be a problem. A drone setup will likely cost more.
I have a Cuta Copter Trident 5000 from Seahorse, was about 4k from memory, back in 2019 I think I got it. I run it on a TLD50 on a LBG rod & typically drop about the 700m mark with 6-13 hooks. It's been trouble free apart from the time I flew it into a large tree & broke its body Ouch. Seahorse fixed it up pretty quick, they're good to deal with. They also have the best kontiki in my opinion.
I've heard good things about the Gannets that Drontech sell, but haven't seen them in action.
A bunch of people I know have SplashDrones, some have been ok, others have had GPS issues. Repair/service times on these are quite long from what I hear.
A couple of people I know have had Condor drones, one failed out over the water for no apparent reason. The other had GPS issues from memory.
I've snagged the kontiki a couple of times & busted it off. Always managed to recover by kayak, but have several friends that have lost them. Have snagged with the drone once as well, lost the leader section & 8 traces.

I use it with live bait off the rocks as well, so 50lb mono. If I was going to set it up just for the drone I'd load it with 80-100lb braid.
