I very much doubt any of those species will be found in the Weiti River. Snapper, and parore plus rays, sharks, mackerel and mullet are more realistic targets for you there.

Aussie fish- best place for those is the estuary system around the Gladstone power station grew up chasing them along with Barra, Mangrove Jacks and alot of other species ...  Trumpeter in NZ WTGN south, Tics (Terakihi) Moki (Blue,Copper and Painted) again south, all caught surfcasting and boat fishing - I have never caught them in a river system in NZ.

It's a shame we don't have a more interesting estuarine fishery. I would love to have a go at flathead. That said, I think there is more going on in our estuaries with the usual suspects than we think. Snapper, kahawai, kingfish etc.

Watties sell frozen peas & corn in the same bag just for flounder fishermen Big smile

Both are supposed to work but have never tried them. I caught one as a kid using pipi for bait.

Mate Denimviper who used to frequent here seems to have catching them on softbaits sorted. I’m sure he’d be happy to share.

Watched a bloke who drove from West Yorkshire to Whitby reel in a Dap ( Small flounder)  last week, he threw it back complaining they taste terrible ?  Three hook  sliding dropper rig with a sand grapnel sinker from what I could make out and sardine for bait. Chatted briefly to him and he was chasing whiting, said he'd never take a flounder home as his wife didnt like them???  Strange, odd people those English!
