A quick report from today's fishing. Traveled east early morning to beach launch the Mac into unfamiliar territory. The fishing was pretty consistent over the 4 or so hours on the water. At one stage we pulled all lines in so we could get a bite to eat without being interrupted by bending rods.
Tally for the day was 13 binned ( majority was given to family in Whakatane on the way home), 18 received tags and about 10 released without tags due to the frequency of fish coming over the side. Awesome day and will be doing it again sometime. Conditions were as good as it can get. Only two undersized fish caught. Fished between 8-12m.

Mint conditions, better than we had at Tauranga, ideal day for beach launching with zilch swell. Good escape from Tauranga crowds there Kitno

Towed the little Mac to Ohiwa Beach holiday park on Wednesday afternoon and settled in for a 3 night stay with a near perfect forecast ahead of us. The next morning we headed out to 15m over sand and anchored up for a big bait strayline session. Fish came on board in a steady stream and progressively got bigger. After 3 hrs hrs the bin was full and a decent amount released with a tag.
The next day we used lure only with softbaits out fishing the sliders. Plenty of solid fish caught again. Not quite as good results as the previous days bait fishing but we were restricted to 10m as the conditions beyond that wasn't very comfortable in a little boat. An awesome area to fish that gets very little pressure it would seem.
Smallest fish in the photo is 34cm that managed to gobble the hook down deep.
