I love deep fried fish and chips but nowadays the guts can’t handle the fat to well. I’m a big fan of pan fried fish but chips cooked in the oven just aren’t the same.

Air fryers have been around for a while now but I thought they would produce chips the same as cooked in the fan baked oven. Had some chips cooked in an air fryer and they were really good, done deal.

So I’m wondering what fresh crumbed fish filets are like cooked in the air fryer and if any of you guys use one.

Cheers Kerry

Have air oven, not air fryer, works same principle.gets more use than the normal oven. Hmm crumbed fish found it comes out a bit dry. Amazing things though.when meat is set on a tray how much fats exit
Forget oil/margarine go straight for butter. Still cant beat a fillet pan fried in butter.Just enough so it doesnt stick.

Bit like yourself ,fish n chips cooked in fats/oil(takeaways) get that uneasy stomach feeling.but our one around the corner ,new owner and only uses lard. What a difference

thanks Paul is more the old acid reflux from the fried food, thought it might dry the fish out, so looks like I’ll stick with pan fried in butter.

I had my gall bladder removed last year & it's had an affect on fatty foods.
Our Belville bench top oven with airfyer has stepped up to the mark & a lot of crumbed stuff & chips get the royal treatment in there.
Dunno about fish but the rest is pretty good.
I'm hopeful of getting a couple or so tarakihi tomorrow & might just get brave

I know it's a bit of a fad thing smudge but we use ours ( Breville) more often than not.
The big oven has sat unused for a year or so.
Crumbed chicken thighs are worth the dosh on their own.
Oven chips are good but have to be careful not to overdo them.
Briscoes sell these top cook ovens on "special" umpteen times a year.
About 60% of the cost at Leemings & Harvey Normans.
In a nutshell, yep, I rate them

Phillips myself.
Sausages, chicken thighs, toasties, bacon oven fries, nuggets all great.

Crumbed or panko fish not so great, tends to dry out too much

That sounds good Bill, I saw them 'on special' at Briscoes and was wondering how they go. Especially for dead hens.

yeah mate as said above so I might just stay with the pan frying but it’s the chips I’d like to get sorted.

Dead hens would jump at the chance to warm up in one of those smudge.
...& Sharlene would be in her element, keeping them warmed up for your imminent arrival, I'm sure

We have had one for a few months cooks things like chicken legs and wings really well, no fat etc. My only complaint is that it takes a bit to clean all the parts. Ours is like a large pot with a grill, a plate on the bottom so you really need to soak in a large sink full of hot water to clean any oil or fat that comes out what you cook. Once your get the timing right it makes a very nice job of meat, haven't tried anything else yet and it seems to be quick.

With children growing up, getting their own lives, leaving home while back, we got a smaller bench top oven.
Lot less power, and more convirnt for the 2 of us. Even doing smaller cakes, chickens.

Then got a Air fryer around 3 or 4 yrs go..
Even less power, and results exceptional over both oven and bench oven for most things. Espec on re heating fried foods.
Along with the bench oven , toaster, espresso machine, toastee maker, soda stream  kettle, all std fixtures in the butlers pantry.
Big issue in our old kitchen with all these portable mini cookers is the bench/ shelf space and some being stored , carried onto the bench.
