Hi all.  I’ve seen other boats with a sticker showing the basic navigation rules, markers etc.

Does anyone know where I can find one? Wanting to have something that I can show to the kids to help my explanations.

Cheers

You mean the Coast guard ones?

They come as a center fold out in coast gaurd info/ help booklet....Free... I pick mine up at the boat show.. which hasnt happened for a while.
Try your local CG , or give them a ring may send a couple booklets out

Yeah I thought it was Coastguard, but can’t find anything on their site. Might have to give them a call.

Just been out to the boat
I have 4 stickers.
1/ Buoys and markers...Auckland city Council Harbour Master
2/ VHF channels    Maritime NZ
3/ VHF my details and basic how to..  Maritime NZ
4/ Basic rules on passing etc    Coast Guard

With rules, its like driving on the right hand side road in the rest of the world.. and common sence.
So down the right side of a ramp, out the left.
Cruising drive on the right side of channels.
Giveway to the (Corrected to) left.

And what dont see written down much...I rem from a skipper coarse back in the early 70s..stuck in my mind.

Is you have a vessel thats going to cross your path in the distance....not sure if on a collision coarse (yet)?
Look at the background of the vessel, hills , horizon, slow moving clouds ...
If they appear not to be moving interrelation the vessel you are watching, your ARE on collision... So turn slightly to the stern of that boat.

Anyway hope this helps.

Incorrect "steps" Giveway to the left

Yip, PJC, like cars approaching a roundabout.

BUT the ultimate rule I've found after three years driving my own little boat is to never assume the other person knows the rules (or - probably more to the point - will follow them), and be ready to give way...

Better to be safe than sorry out on the water.

Thanks for the replies. Just to be clear, I’m happy with the rules, I’m just after the sticker to help me explain those rules to others when on the boat.

Bang on. See update post below.
Has Maritime NZ logo on the bottom right corner.

The Coastguard's Welcome aboard Mate booklet that I have has two stickers in the middle - the VHF channels one, and a bumper sticker.

No worries. Yeah they are free. I reordered a VHF one the one I have is a getting quite faded. I think they changed the coating though as permanent marker doesn’t write on them as well as the old one. I give anyone I take out a little Saftey brief fire extinguisher, flares, radio and how to call if in trouble and something has happened to me etc.
