No idea, but any beach, any wharf , anytime usually works. Put out some smashed up bread, use 18 sized hooks or smaller. Myself and my four kids got our intro to sea fishing this way. Hand lines work well.. Honestly even a beach will work most times. Make sure you fry them up, even the humble yellow eye mullet (what Aucklanders call sprats) are pretty tasty for kids. well they are tasty full stop but giving the kids a meal of sprats - and you will enjoy it too, will set them right

Had a ball at Scott’s Landing a couple of weeks ago. Lots of small ones but get bigger in Autumn. Was using prawn for bait.

The first wharf on the Weiti river is a good spot for sprats, you want to be there for the last couple of hours of the incoming tide.
