I currently have a shimano 4000 oc baitrunner paired with a shimano aquatip 4-8kg
That was/ is very close to one of a pair of our original rods rods.
I have upgraded to a 4000 thunus and a okuma concept for stray line/ sb ..
Its also excellent to pull up beside to a boil up and cast into/ retrieve rather than trolling around.
The 4000Oc have since been upgraded to carbon drags (See Advert for the "Reel Guys " left of the page. Surprisingly cheap.
Our other go to rods where and still are shamano 6000 oc on 15kg Xfactors and lipstick rods.
These work straylines easy and ledgers off the west coast nps. Also trolling for KY and skippies..
They are not for skull dragging a puka up from the depths, But will get a 3m mako to the boat in 60m with bit of fun.
We run 30lb Diawa J8 coloured braid on all our reels.
A shark rolled, turned at the boat, flicked its tail snaping a 10" section out on my rod a few months ago and now all the rods bar 1 are Okuma.
So I suggest still going shamano but 6000 oc on a 7' ish 10 to 15 nano matrix rod....
It works well both on the boat and on wharf/ rocks shelf.
Or if intending to also do bit of surfcasting go up to the 8000 oc for duel use... swaping between rods
Big part of long lasting reliable reel is keep the drags on, spray wash down after every trip.. even if not used. Rack up let dry right out. Then let drags off, and drops reel oil around drag, and very important, the bail arm wheel /bush , and from under neath into the body.
