Hey guys I’m new to signing up but been reading for some time! So I started about 2 years ago up in Kerikeri around the bay of islands and was clearly blessed as I was getting a feed fairly regularly, been travelling around and have not had success for almost a year and a half!! I’m currently living in riverhead and need some good rocks to fish from, I’m keen to try Stanmore Bay, read some good things on here from 2004 and 2012 but I can’t narrow down any Rocky outcrops from google maps or anything in the forums. I’m happy to do a fair bit of driving, maybe like up to 2 hours but obviously closer the better! Please help a young fisherman find a reliable spot!!!!

some great info below from NZ Fishing World, which used to be a great mag in print, but sadly went the way of a lot of magazines these days. Thankfully they still have a useful online library or old articles.

Hey,

Appreciate the links, had checked those articles out already actually did have some luck up towards Tawharanui area around the rocks there, mild success around Leigh and Ti Point. The points the article mentions around the east coast of Auckland I didn't actually find overly helpful and a few locals warned me off say theres not much fish around these days with the pollution (whether this was just to get me to stop fishing I don't know!)

There have to be some other rock fishers here surely! I'm a few years off of getting a boat so something to tie me over would be seriously helpful. Also struggling with getting snagged in rocky areas, is there a better set up than the ledger for this? If the wind works I obviously strayline but if theres any head wind I generally need a little bit of weight to carry the cast over a shelf or a ledge and naturally get snagged a decent amount (one of the other problems fishing new spots blind!)
