Given that it’s pretty hard to keep reels dry on the Yak I keen to know what affordable reels hold up to this environment in the 2500 - 3000 range?

Are using Diawa 3000 / 4000 TD sols, 4000 is mag sealed and Quantum EXO EX 30. These three have been used on kayak full on for the last five years. all still going strong as. Used an assortment on yak before them. A cheaper reel i have put to the test is a Abu Garcia S30 not expensive but going well.
If you wash your reels well and look after them then you can expect some longevity Kayaking or not.
On the other hand if you are like some others I know and not look after your gear you may well only get 6/12 months out of them.If dunked in water service them quick. More to the point in a few words, 'Look after your gear.'

Penn Slammer III reels are the best bet. Only downside is that they are heavy for their size.

Thanks MB and Hook it. That slammer is bloody heavy and 15kg of drag? Wow. That’s more like an anchor winch. Anyone tried the spinfisher VI ?
