Hi all - completely new to this having just moved here to Manly Whangaparoa from the UK (don’t worry not that recent!). So I have a Kayak, Life jacket etc and going to buy fishing gear next week for soft baiting. I’m right by the bay here so that’s great but does anyone have any suggestions on where best to try around the Bay Area? How far I need to go out - in or beyond the bay? Ideal depths to try or known hot spots for Snapper? I know it’s not a true science as such but any experienced feedback or tips would be a great help thanks!!
I’ve freshwater fished plenty but pretty new to sea fishing... especially from a kayak! 😀

Thanks. Glenn

Hi Glenn & welcome. I haven't fished that area in many years and it was all from the rocks back then. I would concentrate on casting into the rocks but keep yourself safe. Right up the top end of the Peninsula has some very cool places. I'd be snooping around Wellington Reef or wellington rock whatever it's called. Let us know how that goes.

If you're fishing softbaits cast right in close to the rocks. If fishing baits do the same with strayline rigs.

Hi Glenn

I am a kayak fisherman in whangaparaoa (stanmore bay) I usually fish Army bay, Shakespear, or Arkles. Not much structure out from Stanmore and Manly. Fishes OK for most of the year, no massive fish but should be able to get enough legal snapper for a meal or two most times. Been a bit dead lately but as the cooler weather moves in they seem to get a bit bigger and hungrier.

Happy to accompany you on the first trip or two if you like.

Cheers
Patrick
