It gets a bit depressing - but when does it end??
The Pacific ocean hasn't got enough fish to feed all of China. The fish processing plant built 5-6 yrs ago by the Chinese never opened. No environmental consent and strong local opposition. Rusted for 5 yrs, Then suddenly opened last yr. Still no environmental consent.
The Vtu Govt gets a princely total of 5% of the tuna export - they expect to land 40T /week. Never mind the headline number - doesn't make sense, They have opened a shop in town to sell the longline by- catch - mahi/wahoo/marlin. Only interested in exporting Y/F. The chinese guy now has permission to increase his boats from 5-6 to 60.
In some ways an unintended consequence of a no-tax regime. They miss out on 30% of hundred of $M /yr, so take the 5% on the fish stock. More fish caught = more 5%. If you were planning a charter - sooner would be better than later.
Regards
Alan

China is slowly taking over the South Pacific. First move is to provide infrastructure to the South Pacific Island..,
Next step is to get them in debt..
Then just plunder the fish stocks unchecked because they have paid off a few corrupt officials....
They tried to do the same to the Chatham Islands.
Provide solar power for everyone then all Chatham Islands sea food goes out the back door I'm guessing...
Chinese are slowly but surely taking over ......

So your posts recognises the threat of over population.

All countries of the world that exceed there potential to be substanable from there land or sea biomass will seek other opportunities.

It's an easy way.

It's enivitably self destructive.

If you support climate change,
Or living within your means which is a better analogy.

You wouldn't be doing this.

So if you expand your population and are now are devoid of the resources you require to maintain yourselves what would you do.

Well plunder by any means or create other opportunities, and create a deterrent via military or trade for the tools to continue.

If you don't get world politics maybe one day you will when you are starving on a first world Island or a third world island..

Or your new laungage is Chinese or american or European.

If you won't defend your rights to live and give away all your rights for shiny beads than your arse is red raw from being tickled vigorously.

It's life, has been going on for centuries.
But act as sheep you will be eaten, probably with rosemary or soy sauce.

Krow,
Where you hunt there will always be a feed.

For your kin I don't hold, much hope.

It's to big for us as individuals to challenge,,,,
Unless we become the majority that give a ****.

Krow - we will save a couple for you - but don't tell anyone. Or they will be taken.
They reckon they will be exporting 2000T of YF pa. NZ has a TACC of 500T. Last figures I got they caught 0.5T of their 500T. When do we learn? Come on Nash - a 30% cut to the NZ YF quota would help - surely. ? :-( NOT. A total abolishment of the quota would be better.
Yes Matoo, the worlds resources - especially the ones we plunder and do nothing to replenish, cannot sustain an ever increasing population. Inevitable result.

Alan

Its hard to influence govt and anyone else but you can make your choice, simply stop spending your dollars on anything made in China. Its not easy but it can be done.
