Its not only the buggers that steal what is not theirs, the people who buy the boat or the parts that should be hung, but sadly not much is done in this country with so called petty theft, assault etc

Sry maybe just caught me on a bad day.
Comments like that are made by ppl who have never spent much time overseas...
And considering our population tax base to fiance police, justice, health etc we still kick well above most other countries.

You may well kick well above other countries however it is a sad day when a population becomes complacent with respect to theft, assault etc

If yr referring to me Ive lived and worked all over the world and sorry apart from sth Africa and some third world countries we are not nearly as good as we think we are Yes we did have a very good relaxed life if you had money and liked the outdoors but the social issues are getting bad and although the police no doubt are trying they are losing in many areas

Whatever we have going for us, I don’t think you can describe the criminal justice system as robust.

Why do we blame the part that picks up the pieces of a system thats breaking down and dont have a tax base big enough to keep up?

but the social issues are getting bad and although the police no doubt are trying they are losing in many areas

exactly.. just moved out of 50yrs living as an adult in Manurewa....the social changes, espec in the 'upgrading' of the housing built in NZs biggest building boom of late 60s early 70s going to be .. no is the biggest screwup in NZ social experiments.
Yet one can still walk or drive round day or night and not be hyjacked. Areas (pockets) where neighbors know each other, dont become crime targets..
But the writing is on the wall and it is not the justice system or those in it that is the problem.

It's not just about the police or resources, it's the judiciary, prisons and politicians. The Labour-led government don't want people to go to prison, believing that they can be rehabilitated. The wet bus ticket culture has got wetter.

Personally I agree with you on this, it seems to be the flavour of the decade to try the soft touch, no doubt about it we are all getting soft, gone are the days where you worked when you were sick, were loyal to the company you worked in and tried to better your self (even though there are still a few that try) I noticed that even in Au the judicial system is letting people that have committed grievous bodily harm to another person get off with a light sentence. People made a song and dance about the young lady from Britain who was murdered but said little about the security guard who was murdered in Auckland recently. Jacinda jumped up and down about the mass killing in CHCH which was serious but more people are killed in NZ, one punch assaults, home invasions and it seems this isn't that serious?? Any way we are deviating from the original subject, I hope they find you boat and the perpetrators are bought to justice.....  Ermm

Yep agree, its a bout building bureaucratic  feel warm empires
Or put another way take funding from front line and put it into desk jockeys to support and come up with ideas... like remove consequences.

Yep...
Or think outside the square a little , without extended conservation this thread would have disappeared into the vaults of forum history.
With new posts this keeps getting bumped up, and hopefully more ppl see the original post.

Or if further details etc came to light, which it appears have not, that would also bring it back up.
