Hi guys, Have decided that the old Kilwell 9 weight and the wide arbour that never get used are about to be sacrificed to the SWF Gods. I've got the floating line and a few odd looking , if somewhat weighty, flies to fling. Now where's the best place to start? Ideas fellas?

The best place Vig would be out from Omaha when the kingies are active, dead low tide seems best at N/W.........you might need to load the ol' 9wght with some serious line. ------------- Aye-Aye cloth eyes. |

I'll be in Auckland in the next few days if you want to try and tee up a sortie Vig... No offense BA but CD flyrods are tomato stakes in my humble opinion.. The Kilwell will be a better stick than anything they can offer.

Good stuff Cicada.... I have done a days mud fishing with Vig and he casts a mean "regular" fly, so I am sure with just a small amount of learning from someone like yourself he would be off like a prom dress. And I can think of a lot worse locations than the one AC is suggesting, but for, as I understand it Kingies are a bit of a handfull regardless of size on SWF - a few kahawai practise runs perhaps could be in order....if you need/want a burley dispenser you know where to find me... ------------- http://www.legasea.co.nz" rel="nofollow">

Kahawai Vig, I fish a 9wt for them and I wouldnt be keen on a king at all. I know a dandy spot for them in a month or so.... Clarks Beach on the Manukau at night under the light from low tide up could be worth a crack although I have never fished there is supposed to be good. |

Clark took time out of his day to come and have a bit of a chin wag and gave me some fine advice and a couple of brilliant pointers about fly and SWF. Thanks so much Clark I really appreciate it. Just after you left the postie arrived with some new Cabelas goodies for the tackle box. Very excited. But I have to say the yanks are getting progressively odder.... In amongst the marketing detritus, that accompanies anything fun from Cabelas, was a flyer for an "orchard tree' - grows 5 different kinds of fruit at the same time. And we thought Genetic Modification was going to be used badly...you see totally safe!! hehehehe My wife made the sign of the cross for protection and she's Jewish! Will attempt to post pics of lures...mmmm yummy. Thanks agin Clark great talking with you and look forward to catching a couple with you soon. Hope you don't mind, I rezized your picture for yyou... nice looking flies!!! IMHO The two top right flies would be good Kahawai flies, the chartruese clouser an all rounder, but especially small snapper and the others perfect for kings... espcially the articulated popper... let me know if you are heading out, always looking for an excuse...
