 Date: Wed 3 July Time: 7:00 pm until approx 8:30 pm Location: Auckland Marine Rescue Centre, 3 Solent Street, Mechanics Bay, Auckland. Bars being covered: Manukau and Port Waikato What are these all about?: hese informative seminars are presented by specialists in the following areas:
These seminars are NOT designed to provide inexperienced boaties with all they need to know to start tackling bars. However for those with the experience or who are currently crossing it, the information here and the opportunity to ask questions is a valuable opportunity. You need to book a place but there's no cost to attend - a donation would be nice. What is the possibility of co coordinating with maybe the Counties Sport Fishing Club,and/ or Hunting and Fishing Pukekohe for a seminar? Both Waikato and Manukau bars are well used by those in the Waikato and the very Southern reaches of Auckland. One could maybe consider the majority of users of both bars. From places like Waiuku, and the other side of the Waikato river.. it is getting into over a hr trip each way, and thats if dont hit traffic. And lets face it, going into Auckland traffic is avoided like putting your hand into boiling water down this way. I would suggest Pukekohe as a venue. Waiuku general area is rather a long round trip from places like Port Waikato, Onewhero etc |

Yes we have delivered these in Papakura and Tuakau off the top of my head. More than happy to look at partnering up with other organisations to spread the net further. Anyone here from the Counties Sport Fishing Club?

Coastguard Maritime School have called me and I'm looking at Counties sport Fishing Club working with CG to put a Bar Crossing Seminar together in Waiuku. Hopefully we can get that underway in September or so before everyone heads off for their springtime snapper hunt. I still have to talk to our club committee but I'm sure they will back this up and we can support Coastguard to ensure we get a good turn out on the day. Thanks for suggesting it Steps.

Great event. If your crossing any bar and can attend, but hesitating, why arent you interested insaving you, your family and mates lives. I have been to a number over the years and there is always something new that may save my life and crew. If you have an interest in life preservation, your own and others it's well worth it. ------------- Just cruising in my now sweetas pimped out Southern 755 HT0! |

Really good information for anyone who may be crossing a bar at any stage - useful for both skippers and crew as there's something everyone can do to help get across a bar safely from keeping a lookout to stern coming in on a bar to getting lifejackets sorted.... Thanks Darren for a great job in presenting the evening and to the other volunteers that shared their experience and advice on the Manakau and Waikato bars.
