Coming soon to a place far far away - Te Toro to be precise. June 9. Details to follow. This is the highlight of my fishing year. Despite winning countless prizes at our club's fishing comps - especially for gurnard, I think I've only had one or two top ten finishes and as far as I recall I've never been in the top ten.
I'm supposed to be the gurnard guy right?
This year Smudge, this year. Like The Warriors
In the past I've offered to take people fishing to teach them some gurnard tricks. In 2017 I took forum member Popeye out to my favourite spots, he came 2nd and I didn't catch a single fish. Wayno came out in the early years and won it, I showed him the spots. It is stories like that that make this such a special comp for me - plus the fact that I run it - along with a couple of good keen Counties men of course.
I have even offered a $1000 to a lucky draw if I win it. Still luck hasn't come my way on the day.
This year I'm not offering anything but a pledge. If I win this year I'll be spending part of the $3000 1st prize on a tattoo, my first one. It will be a gurnard tatt of course!
I'll post some rules and entry detail;s soon, once I've dreamed them up.

The occasional trout.. More catfish and carp... About the same sort of creatures you find in the pubs nd bars down these ways. No good.. Once the fog clears you get a shock.
The North is where its at... Everything is bigger and better (shelias get a bit more like buck shelford in the pubs north of wellsford though.. Beefy buggers)

Yet to spear a carrot let alone see one Smudge.. Think you need to head to bar101 in Auckland loaded with a Ed Sheeran remix and a few vodka cruisers to berley up and hook into a good sized orange carrot.. Maybe wear your best partydress too.

Hopefully will have Surgeons clearance for this comp..
Just been looking at tide times..
Considering if weather ok head out off the Waikato bar rather than Te toro.
Head out around the 2.5m tide height mark about 11:30am.. get thru the creeks from the landing...full tide is about 2:30 pm... so back in over about 3pm.. weigh in at te toro 4pm
Makes rather tight to get back to Te toro, after getting home drop boat off...
Are we able to send someone straight from the ramp at the landing to Te toro with fish and the entry ID forms for all the crew, and rest of the crew get in a little late?
We have got some nice gurnard a a couple spots out off the Waikato bar in the past..
PS Bite times look around 5am to 8:30 am and 10:30am to 2:30pm

I enter all the reqyuired registration information and still get the "No events" message.
Todays attempts were on 2 completely different computers at 2 locations so I doubt it is a computer issue given I get the same result now on 4 different computers and a smartphone at 3 different locations (with different internet providers) in Whakatane.

After many many attempts to register via the "Non Member registration" <Fishing competitions> option I tried the <Courtesy Weigh> option to see what happened and there it was.... Grunter Hunter competition ticket purchase options.
Despite the best efforts to keep the ticket sales hidden I finally managed to outsmart the internet.

Seems to me the issue is that Grunter Hunter tickets sales have been associated with the Affiliated Members Courtesy Weigh registration under the "Non Member" section - " Non members of Csfc click here!" rather than the <logical> Fishing Competition Registration.

Couple days ago , long term was looking like a full on storm was going to hit around before and over the weekend, but the system looks like coming in 36/48 hr early now.
The Sth/ SW storm/rain/swells coming in around midnight wed will have cleared by Frid evening.
By Sunday the iso bars should be Wider than the Nth island and breeze less than the forecasts recon.
I would not be surprised if the high they recon sitting out off the coast for Sunday , is actually over the Manukau harbour.

Vinnies bacon and egg is so good my wife will not let him go fishing (in her boat) with us unless he keeps a couple slices just for her when she gets home from work. His chicken nibbles are to die for.. On top of that he's a great and good company.. Regular crew of both us and Baz for many yrs. Unfortunately I'm not sure, doubtful if will be able to get clearance after open heart to get out, Vinnie being one of intended crew

Yep that high is moving across, if gets in just 3 hrs earlier..perfect which is very likely.
As the day goes on, just gets better and better right thru into evening
Even as it is,the harbour full tide flat as a pancake.
Maybe a couple showers late Sat night , then no rain right thru to tues.
I would not consider crossing the bars an option

Got tickets online, looks like need to see weigh master to collect. Do I offer bribes at this point or earlier.
