Made me spin off and google them and hit images. Geez outboards have come along way but some of those Art Deco space themed jobs are awesome. Wonder how many made it to nz ??

I alway find the vinage outboard display at the boat show interesting..
Espec when see the old outboards (seahorse) the old man had on the back of the kauri clinker boat... and consider the distances we would go out into the inner gulf/ firth...

In saying that, I enjoy any old vintage machinery, be it cars, bikes, steam engines...espec appreciate the time, effort and pride put into restoring them.

My Dad was involved in the build of a NZ manufactured outboard. Prob the 60's from memory. He made gearbox components. The guy struggled to pay the bills and we ended up with some of the completed motors. 10HP from memory. Dolphin riptide I think. I was just a kid.
But we had one on our boat - we didn't have a boat til then. had a few issues and dad finally got it going right. We used to plod miles out to sea.
Correct me if I have some of this wrong - but that is how I remember it.
Alan
