I have read a bit about fishing in Samoa and would like to be a bit independent - fish off any jetties, rocks etc. Even looking to hire a kayak to fish around inshore reefs, weather permitting.

Does anyone have any tips on places to try?

Every Sunday me and the wife used to borrow resort hobbie cats and sail the lagoons with a lure out the back always got a feed. Trevally of many species - large long toms etc. lots of coral so didn’t do bottom bouncing. Suggest drive the coast road with a surface lure ready to go. Guaranteed if not too rough to see bait fish pushed up against the shore. And cast past them. Just be prepared to share or give the fish to the land owners. Catch and release is frowned on by the locals.

Went to Faleloupo. Cast a popper off the Lava cliff. Was almost nailed by something massive. Would have been sketchy getting in. However now have a 14ft busted fishing gaff. Could be keen to go back. Not much help if things go wrong.
