I am looking at getting some sort of underwater viewing system sorted out for finding decent places to set cray pots adjacent to ledges, cracks etc.

Only looking at working in depths up to about 20M. I suspect a bathyscope would only be useful up to 10M max I have never used one, but no electronics involved and they are fairly cheap.

Can anyone suggest any workable cheap options?

yeah it may come to that but see https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RNlJSOn10Ls " rel="nofollow - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RNlJSOn10Ls  ; also it appears you can build a cable to fit a gopro to enable real time viewing
