Hey guys, this is my first post by the way.

I'm going to visit Mount Maunganui in the next week or so and I've recently been wanting to catch some flounder. I'm just curious if flounder can be caught in the Mount Maunganui Region and if so how deep would I need to go to find a legal sized flounder.

Just so you know, I'll be staying about 5KM away from the base of the Mount and staying on the side facing the open sea.
If anyone knows the answer can you please reply. ☺️

Try posting this query in the Tauranga report section, you might get more eyes over it.
I recall seeing a thread or two about flounder in the Tauranga area, try a topic search using those words.
I've personally speared a few in the northern arm of the harbour, in knee deep water. As with many harbours in NZ, the extent of shallow muddy/sandy areas to try for flounder is amazing.
As always, scout areas in the daylight first to get an idea of any channels, drop offs, etc. where you could get caught out in the dark. Safety first.
