Hey all,

Im trying to put the odds in my favour and I see some good conditions coming up on the coromandel this weekend with tides and moon rises, bite times and change of light.

The question I have is around the flow of water during the ebb and flood in the Whitianga area and in particular around the Mercury islands and reefs.

I'm wanting to stickbait a bunch of different spots i've identified including Whale and a few on the inside and Richards plus a few on the outside and the only tidal direction info I have is the arrow off Navionics which pretty much just goes around in circles.

I know there must be some salty legends out there that can shed some light on this.

I guess the reef structure out at the 100m would work better on an incoming tide? and possibly the inside reef system would work on the outgoing? Basing that solely on the position of the inside reefs to the harbour.

Sound like I have no idea? please fire away, I'll take any and all information.

Screaming reels.

Preston

Dont know much about the tidal directions, but if you happen to find my split fin i lost on a night dive north of the main island about 6 years ago, i'll be happy to have it back. Its mate is getting awfully lonely.

Why choose either diving or fishing when you can do both. Besides crayfish tail is very good bait!!

Interesting questions here. I for one don’t believe I take currents other than high tide low tide into consideration when planning fishing.
