Hi Team,

I'm heading to Raro for 12 night leaving late Feb. I was thinking of taking my Twinpower 14000 and stickbait (energy concept) rod to throw some lures around.

I'm wondering if I am going to be way under gunned? What do you think?

Planning on doing a few half day charters as well.

Cheers

Jamie

The 'pet' GTs around the north end of Muri, or Avarua Harbour (although I think they don't like people fishing in the harbour any more?) are bloody enormous and will give you a run for your money, at Muri it really depends which way they run and to an extent what the tide is doing at the time.
The bluefin trevs and most other reef fish you will smash over on that gear, no problem. Likewise most of the fish you're likely to hook from the charter boats; on topwater that's probably going to be yellowfin and maybe Mahimahi, unless you find a charter that will take you in close and let you cast back at the reef.
I had a lot of fun with a 4000-size reel and a light travel spin rod flicking small softbaits around; in the gin-clear water you can basically sight-fish for all sorts of little reefy things.

14000 twin power?
You'll be fine imho
As long as yr got pe8 and matching rod.

We got yft from 40 - 73 kilo on spingear in Aitutaki. Was on 20k Stella though.

Twin power are very capable reel

Nothing wrong with your PE 6 rod. I caught numerous GT's and yellowfin on a Daiwa Demon Blood PE 5 rod.
