Hi Guys,

Had a good few sessions in AKL and the BOI over xmas now that the ski is setup (and sent up north).
One thing I noticed is that the majority of my drifts were pretty quick, possibly too quick especially in 15m+.
I was exclusively softbaiting/ micro jigging, fishing without a drogue and was wondering if anyone is doing the same or if you run with the drogue from the ski? if so how do you have this attached?

Cheers,

i run one of these from a stern eye: https://www.marine-deals.co.nz/tagit-jet-ski-sea-anchor-nz-made" rel="nofollow - https://www.marine-deals.co.nz/tagit-jet-ski-sea-anchor-nz-made

if it's too rough to run it from the stern, i'm going home!

Thanks for that- I still have a drogue from boat before I sold it and moved down here so might give that a go over Waitangi while up next.

Saw your post in spearo thread earlier re scallops- I was in Whangarei last week and had no trouble finding a feed for myself and boatman in shallow water, all good size 110mm+ Not sure how to PM on here but am happy to let you know where that was if you PM me.

cool. i was going to say the tagit drogue could be a bit bigger, so your old one might be perfect.

as for scallops, thanks for the offer Thumbs Up, but all good now. they actually seem to have got bigger and more numerous as the season has gone on.

I also run my drogue from the stern eye. I have attached a small float and a retrieval line to the sharp end. works a treat. lesson learnt from my days in a kayak Wink

Im running out of places to attach to- the towing eye and two eyes on the stern are take up with turnbuckles from fishing kit! also makes them inaccessible, might have to come up with some sort of system to set and retrieve...

ok, so you can either have the drogue line semi-permanently attached to the stern eye, or do what i do now which is a short length of rope attached to the stern eye and at the other end, a stainless carabiner which is clipped off to the chilly bin frame when the drogue is not in use. when you want to deploy the drogue, unclip the carabiner and clip on to drogue line. hope that makes sense!

Gents....

Old-ish thread but I would add my 2 cents..

I fish the near shore off Virginia Beach, VA USA and the Pamlico Sound in the Hatteras North Carolina area.

I have used Sea Anchors/Droges/etc when needed.  On the Pamlico, there has been times when the wind was blowing me 4 - 6 knots..

I have 2 Padeyes that are forward of my knees.  I clip everything to them.  Rod Leashes, Knife/Plier Leashes, etc.  The Location is not 100% ideal but I can reach them easily, and it keeps the Nose mostly in a good position.

The Droge is attached by a Carabiner that has a builtin CamLock.  The Line goes thru the CamLock and hold very well.  It also allows me to jettison the Anchor or Droge Lines immediately if something bad starts to happen quickly.

The only issue, and this pertains to the Anchor or the Droge, is storage after retrieval, mostly of the Line(s).  Everything seems to get piled up under my feet...

Thanks
Steve
