Spring is here which means the Topwater season has officially kicked off.

Plenty of kingifsh in the Hauraki Gulf at the moment, so the boys have been heading out over the past few days and have been getting into some fat spring kingfish in shallow water.  Over 45 Kingifsh landed over 3 days casting, ranging from 4Kg - 17kg.

Both Ken and I have been very successfully with the new Madcapbros Jackpot II lures and MC Works Bondage hooks landing some fat spring kingfish sashimi. Plenty of double hook ups with some nice fish landed.

I recognise the spot and we were there yesterday and got 2 in under an hour then moved on to another reef for some deep live baiting for JD without success but caught 3 reasonable snapper stray lining. We then moved into the shoreline and caught 7 squid for dinner with one over a kilo - tasty suckers when really fresh.
