Disagree on  "striking resemblance"

Trumpy is just an idiot who puts his mouth into gear before engaging brain.. cant really blame him thu, lacks brain tissue.. If he had even 1/2 a brain he would die of confusion.. hang on, thats just what the West wing is doing...
Winnie, hes more calculating, engages brain to get attention of a pre targeted voter group... but often forgets about the smaller group that actually votes.

Trump, a billionaire that is now President of the USA. I have a hard time believing he is an idiot. Maybe its just fashionable to pick on him.

Seems to me a lot of vested interests in trashing someone so you have to take it all with a grain of salt - don't personally like Trump or his style but many do - go figure....Peters is smart has been around politics a long time unlike Trump...not a fan of Peters but take him over trump ANY DAY!

A lot of people paid a lot of money into Clinton's campaign expecting to get rewarded for it once she was in power.  They are all no doubt very pi**ed off with the result and have a score to settle with Trump.

It's easy to sit back and take pot shots at those in charge, which popularist politicians such as Winnie do. It's a different thing altogether to run a country and be the target of the Winnies. It would tear NZ First apart if they actually did have a policy on anything. Isn't that kind of what we are seeing in the USA? Donald is firing people all over the show.

Winnie's' forte is being an annoying pest and giving the tall poppy slayers something to believe in.

So you have never come across some who is rich, a polly , a manager, a bureaucrat, someone 'educated' who is not and idiot?

Trump.. something goes wrong.. fire them.. just as well as hes in the USA.. if in many other countries he would just execute.
Bloody idiot.. he choose the USA to become president.

To alienate your economic/ trading and military allies to the degree he has?  idiot.

What other leader around the world appoints his staff cabinet, then within a few weeks, even months  fires them because they cant execute his will .. because its either illegal or unworkable.
A leader should know what is legal or not, and if they dont, take counsel to find out... not 'shoot the messenger.'
Take pot shots.. funny that, yep leaders take BIT of crap... but THIS MUCH, from DAY! near EVERY DAY, CONSTANTLY?

Name just one other intelligent leader that has or has mean accused if this in the last 100 odd yrs and eventually got away with it in a democratic society?.. not shooting the opposition.

I find Trump refreshingly non P.C. Says and is begining to do what other presidents have been told not to say or do.

As for the rest. I see, lookaway, and quietly smile.

He doe's have policy. He wants to seriously pin back immigration. He has also announced that mid term he would call a binding referendum on the number of seats and the abolishing of Maori seats.

Think Pompeys tall poppy gets close..
Winnies policies are usually / often not practical and/ or would cause eg  al sorts of international trade agreement issues type of thing...
Which is basically what trumpy got voted in on....
Just say the right things, get enough propaganda hype behind you regardless if practical or not, get enough to vote and presto.
But are we as voters, at least those who do vote under the MMP party/ candidate system going to do what the American voters have done?

Trump is an example of the difference between stupid and ignorant.
Whilst he's not stupid, he is unbelievably ignorant about a multitude of things

Why are they not practical? What has the number of seats or the make up of them have to do with international trade agreements or that type of thing?
Immigration has been one of the major drivers of the housing market in Auckland. The govt has been asleep at the wheel while first home buyers have been priced out of their own city. We control this situation, not some imaginary trade agreement or something. Don't worry, I have made a lot of money from this, so not really tall poppy.

Why are they not practical? What has the number of seats or the make up of them have to do with international trade agreements or that type of thing?

Basic international free trade agreement clauses.. The very basic concept of free trade agreement is about even playing field without and local sub-ties for competition of local product...
And example of this is Winnies  latest on local wool producers.. holding the industry up by legislating for preferential treatment for the very much more expensive local wool  carpets

We do that and next thing you will se use being dragged thru the Brussels courts , while in the meant time the other counters imply shut off our access to all their markets.

Trade agreements are not the only area where this sort of thing happens.. migration agreements with many other countries, agreements on returning criminals, proceeds from criminal activity.

What polles say at election time in their propaganda is NOT BINDING and so often just not possible to do.. and if it is, likely to send the country into a spiralling recession.
But this is good warn fuzzy vote catching PR

And as we see, now, Trump was a master of this BS. he cant even get any of his core policies thru a senate or congress lead by his own party... a wall.. cultural immigration/ entry, health care,  Europe pay for more of the NATO budget....and thats just the tip.

What is free trade? If you seriously think that you can x amount to china with no restrictions.and they can send x amount here.think again.they who hold the purse strings have the final say.Winston knows all too well how the game is played and us kiwis are on the court.

Yep. We are still the only mugs that truly have free trade. We give all our stuff away free of any tarrifs. Most other country's still have tariffs/subsidies called by different names. They still pratice protectionism to a degree. Not good old asset stripped NZ. Nooooooo. We give away our valuable natural resources dirt cheep instead of value adding here. We want to lead the way in foolishness. You are bang on with the purse strings analogy. China routinely threatens us, not openly but through manufactured back door trade hassles. What really grates is we have to pay so called market prices for products manufactured here using all our infrastructure. 1 kg butter $9. Ridiculous. Yet it can be purchsed cheaper in Europe. When we bleat about it they threaten us by saying the could sell the whole lot overseas and we should consider ourselves lucky. We send our best produce overseas and substitute it with inferior product from our trading partners. Yipeeeeee!

I spent last month in the UK, noticed bottles of Old Mout NZ cider on the supermarket shelves at 3 for a fiver -less than $9.  Can't buy it for that price here, and that has been shipped half way round the world.  General prices for food in supermarkets was half what it is here -or less.  We certainly seem to get screwed on many things here.
