Well my fellow friendly fishos I got a question for those who have a bit of experience with different lures catching GT's.

I am heading to Fiji and to a resort I visit regularly and know the fishing grounds well. I have have caught many GT's but only topping out at 15kg.

I haven't used a large range of lures, last time I visited I caught some good fish on shimano waxwings and have recently purchased some large Nomad chug norris poppers as I got told they are pretty good for GTs.

I want to know what lures you have done well with experiencing high strike rates. I am also looking at carpenters as have been told these are the bees knees.

I fish 15-24kg 3 piece travel rod matched with finnor offshore 6500 50lb suffix and 200lb mono leader.

Cheers everyone

Well firstly i would not use a 3 piece travel rod nor 50lb braid to cast carpenters to GT's. You will never stop a 20kg gt in shallow water. You might be lucky in deep water. A proper 2 piece rod and 80lb braid are the go.

I mostly use Strada poppers from Hunting and Fishing but any range or brands can be good. Replace the trebbles with good one's.
