The latest Daiwa email newsletter highlights this interesting little tool. It lists at $50-ish retail. Does anybody have one and do you think it's worth the money? > It's for tying braid to mono leader. <

Gadgets... iki spike.. get a good bait knife..$5 pams pairing knife. Rod sinker/trace holders.. a ladies hair clip 10 for $2 or hair band on rod above the reel 50 For $2 Learn to tie a 30/45 sec FG on the rod in the rod holder.. and even if cant do it in 45 sec.. would still be faster than digging thru the gadget gear bag, find, set up tie and put everything back. |

It works good when tying lighter lines as it takes the fiddling out of tying the knot, it ties slim fg knot's so they don't catch on the guides while casting. Cheers

Put the rod in the holder with brake on.. pull off main line , rap a few turns around little fingers so doesnt slip. Put the spool of trace on the floor with your foot on it. Take the tag end, keeping tension on main line and trace.. and turn it in figure of eights around the main line... every 4 turns tighten up. 24/ 30 turns whatever one favours,then snip the main line next to to your fingers, or unrap from fingers, 1/2 hitch around trace tag, pull up tight... couple more around the tag and mainline, IMPORTANT.. always pull up tight up a knot in braid on each knot. I like to finish with a finish knot..basically a 1/2 hitch but goes round the loop side a couple times... adds a little bulk, but it is the rear of the knot.. not the end that gets cast thru the guides. |

You would be doing well to do that in 45 seconds Steps. Although I wouldn't buy the tool I see the value in having one as it takes me ridiculous amounts of time to learn a new knot. Not so much these days admittedly ------------- Best gurnard fisherman in my street |

You would be doing well to do that in 45 seconds Steps. Just at what point is a time taken.. from most it seems set up is not part of it...ie the rod is already in the holder and main line drawn... and the trace on hand ready to go. And with most things, a little practice and 45secs is on the cards for 24 double turns No it is not a surgeons nor even reassembles tying or appearance. There are more simple and fast ways to tie many knots.. ie bimmini in 40sec....and even stuff like bowlines.. the 3 turns around the hand method or the single hand method....both done in a flash of the eye. Actually give it a go, you will be rather surprised. |

| I've tied this and it pulls up like a surgeons knot to me, just an alternative way of doing the loops. I like it, you don't need the tool. Just stick 2 fingers through the loop and pull the leader and tag end through. |

I tie an FG knot frequently. As has been said, the knot demonstrated doesn't appear to be an FG. I'm sure some anglers would find a knot tying tool convenient - after all this forum is for newbies some of which may not have amassed your vast amounts of fishing and life knowledge yet  Maybe post a video of how you tie one Steps so we can all learn? ------------- Best gurnard fisherman in my street |

Yep nothing new with your way. Been tiring FG for years using rod or a length of bungee cord or just by hand. Even used to tie it the way the guy from big angry fish ties. That way works fine to and he catches some big fish. I have used it on my jigging gear for at least 10 years and when I converted to top water about 6 years ago I still use the FG. On 80 pound braid to 150 kg leader I al always melt a blob on the end of the leader and then carry on with half hitches down the braid. I don't use my rod for thicker braid as I don't get to carried away about pulling the braid really tight I find after a couple of nice fish the braid has pulled tight into the leader. I prefer the ukatan knot for SB fishing, But just brought a new rod with micro guides so started trying FG, I just use the rod handle, but if there's no rod holder handy I just tie it by hand. Check out the sebile knot on goggle same know but a good quick way to tie it by hand. Plenty of vids on goggle on the FG it was a Asian guy that posted the first vid on goggle using the rod and handle. Now a days you can either learn from experience or learn from goggle. |

Might be a start point if you wanted to try it out, but not willing to pay $50. You could also use a bit of wire and a straw. All you need to do is pull the tag line and leader through the loop. |
