I've just bought a Penn fathom 5'7" rod and a Shimano stradic 5000 for light jigging. I want to use the reel for both jigging and topwater so am deciding on what braid to put on there. I want to get a fair amount of 30lb ish on it rainbow coloured that you can cast without getting wind knots. I was initially looking at the Ocea stuff but I think it's too limp for casting. Sufix performance might be an option.
Any suggestions?

You could use power pro super 8 slick in 30lb as it's good for casting but it only comes in marine blue coloured braid.

Gosen PE3 all day. Jigging braid but casts really well.

Cheers Kingfish yeah really want the rainbow option...
Pete a lot of people swear by the Gosen. Is it very thin? Would a 300m spool be too much or about right.

Another option you could do is get another spool and then you can have one for jigging and another for topwater so you have specialist braids for each use.

You might not get the whole 300m but so what just make sure it's spooled tight but don't over fill your reels spool otherwise you have issues casting, but really doesn't matter if you get 260 or 300m really.
However if you feel you need 300m then go to PE2

Tasline Elite 30lb is the best available but only comes in white, silky smooth and ABS is 49lb
You would get 300m easy on that reel as it is the thinnest braid around

Cheers Kaveman, does it cast well?

Actually made for casting, only fault with it is that they wont do a metered colour braid for jigging

Also every spool is tested for breaking strain and is written on the spool

Cheers Kaveman, that Tasline diameter is still thicker than most according to the spiel on the spool...

I second kaveman's recommendation of the tasline.
Stefan, it might have a thicker stated diameter than the others but I assure you, you will get more of it on your spool, that says something....

Dont believe what some manufacturers put as their stated thickness
on packaging.
I can tell you that tasline is thinner and stronger than any braid produced
Go to www.paulusjustfishing.com to see totally unbiased reviews of nearly any braid ever made and then make up your own mind.
You will see the actual true thickness and actual breaking strain of all braids from the worlds best braid tester

Good call, Kaveman (as usual, sage wisdom).
I love the Tasline Elite White after advice from you and Makka a year or so ago - got two of the light lines on my soft bait reels, which cast beautifully. And just spooled up my top water reel with 50lb.

The Paulus tests are very enlightening in terms of the truth about line diameter. A bit like Alan Hawk with reel reviews. He weighs them and it's amazing how many vary considerably from the weight stated on the box, and also the line capacity. Sure, he can seem a bit nutty at times, but he uploads photos of his electronic scales to prove his measurements.

Thanks Stefan, i have sold a bit of it lately and some of the reviews i have had are that "it is the best i have ever used" and this comes from a kayak fisherman that catches more 20lb snapper than you have ever seenWink
I carry a bit of stock so if you or anyone wants a price, flick me a pm, not as expensive as some braids around

Cheers
Kevin

After reading your comments on the Tasline Elite 30lb. I ordered some
to try, & very glad I did!! It is silky smooth, strong & very nice braid. Took the gosen off (is nice braid too) my Maxel FC30C, using it on my lexa 100.. Don't know how much is on it due to being white  :-) So far it's great stuff.....
