I bust my favourite wee Jigstar 350 rod on a king last week (being stoopid - don't ask!).  I had a Torium 20 spooled with 50lb braid on it now looking for a new home...... needing a new mid-range rod around the $300 mark.

Looking at a few deals under $300 there's....

Shimano Anarchy PE5 5'

Diawa Saltist PE5-6 5'3"

Catch Pro Series Xtreme 5'

or the Jigstar Ninja ... a bit more at $380

Any thoughts, pros/cons, experiences, advice, alternatives greatly appreciated please!

Jigging Master Ocean Devil UL,, the best little rod out for price and will handle small to massive fish. The most bend and most fun to use rod out there. All my mates have one and highly rate them too.

But how well will the UL handle the bigger (300+) jigs like the jigstar 350 could ?

the UL will fish any weight jigs, where we fish there is huge current at times, so we commonly fish 300 jigs or even more to keep the lines vertical on our drifts,   trust me the OD UL are awesome bang for buck, awesome rods and we get a lot of hook ups on them.  Big smile

All your mates gear is JM mate.......he gets its all off Coxy on  the gold coast..I believe.......Good for troyWink
Unfortunately for me......I havent enjoyed any JM gear i have bought..especially that whirring ****.had some issues as well..prefer synit/Jigstar/smiths/Carpenter rods and Shimano reels.
never had any probs with any of those but agree that JM UL was the go to rod with "epic"when Carl was around.(great skip....Him and Lionel from memory makers)...was getting all the hits.

Closest to the old 350g is the Ninja ML which handles a wide jig range and probably our most popular rod. The JM UL is one level lighter which may not have the power or even price to match the Ninja.

give it death!

I have two jigging rods and use them a lot.

My original one is a 350 and my later one is a jigstar 250.

All I want to say is that the 250 with a nice little reel (avet) has become my go to rod on a daily basis and catches most of my kings.

The only time I pull the 350 is up around reinga when I find some big fish.

I pretty much use 300grm all the time and the 250 works them well as you would expect.

I will say though that when it's time for big jigs and big fish the 350 with the accurate is a powerful, powerful set up.

If i had to choose one it would be the 250 hands down.

I've got a bunch of Jigstar Ninjas, on Avet SXJ's and Avet MX raptors, haven't had any issues with these rods, and have caught a lot of fish on them. Great value rod,
