Hi all. I have sold the boat and Looking at getting in to some kayak fishing this summer. Mostly inner gulf (Auckland). Launching at Mairangi bay/Takapuna. Maybe waitemata harbour when the tide isn't ripping through.

And advise on whether these are a good option for a starter???

Personally, I'd stick to Ocean Kayak or Viking. If you think you're going to last the distance, get an mid to upper end model from the start. If it's more of a try and see how you get on, then a Viking Espri or GT, or Ocean Kayak Scrambler or Tetra are all good reliable entry level boats.

Cheers everyone. Looks like starting off decent is the way to go! Will keep looking around until the right one jumps out at me.

Also interested in first fishing kayak for wife and daughter. I have a trusty Prowler 13 but wondered about getting something a bit lighter but is still reasonably good through the water. Considering something like Viking Espri, Ocean Kayaks Tetra or maybe Scrambler II. Are there any others I should consider and your thoughts on these would be appreciated.

I am considering this for the wife and kids this summer. Maybe worth thinking about as an alternative to a kayak. Good price.Smile

Haha TTK. Not quite what I was thinking of. With a 50hp motor I wouldn't be able to stay in front and bark orders!
