You could not make it up.

MPI put a note in the tender documents that the industry had to approve the successful bidder.

That was picked up and removed on request from other bidders but this is banana republic stuff. No sign of Nathan Guy in Parliament. His stand-in batted away questions. we all know who won the bid. The fishery deserves a lot better.

The second in charge of MPI has been moved as of last week.
For your info Scott Gallacher has left MPI. He is now #2 in charge of the Social Development Ministry.
He was the guy in MPI who changed his mind on prosecuting the dumping of fish in Operations Achilles.....
Not aware of his replacement.

I have a wonderful new idea for law enforcement. Lets get the criminals to select the Minister of Police and approve each new recruit. They could even write some of the operational guidelines about how and when to report criminal acts occurring.

This is obscene.

There does not appear to be any channel through which the general population can seek redress from the ministry and individuals involved for criminal mismanagement and the transfer and abuse of public property to/by commercial interests. After  a cursory look it appears to be outside the mandates of the SFO and the Ombudsman.

One of the tools we have is to measure public support for an independent Commission of Inquiry into the inherent problems with the Quota Management System.

Just made the mistake of reading the Herald editorial. Oh dear. Looks like it was written by Nathan Guy.

It probably was.  Journalism as we used to know it is virtually dead these days, all you tend to get is reprocessed press releases served up as news.

ive posted this stuff before, but now with more info on the dumping its brings to light just how bad it is,

this answer seams to be one of their favorites.

"We are not hiding the fact that there have been mistakes made,"

how many years does it take to fix it??????????

why is it all Governments keep trying to hide or lie about it.

just to prove a point they appoint the Fishing Companies the right to monitor themselves so it could still be hidden from the public's eyes.

what sort of Government would allow such a thing to happen??????

only one that is being payed huge back handers, definitely not for the future of NZ...

Yep. and if the rumours are true, onboard mincers will hide any and all evidence of wastage/dumping. No more visible signs of washed up/floating waste. Viola. A more efficient, environmentally friendly fishing industry. Unless the mincers are monitored, there is a chance of even greater wastage/dumping.
