Proposed job cuts at the Ministry of Primary Industries will decimate its compliance staff – and result in unacceptable risk to our most important export sectors, the Public Services Association says.

MPI has confirmed up to 49 jobs may go, including around 30 in the compliance team – around 15% of its existing work force. “The proposed cuts will hit fisheries, animal welfare and food safety – and will damage the ministries ability to investigate and respond”……..taken from Fishing & Outdoor 2016, September.

Could this be the start of another MPI smokes screen?, an excuse for a lack of efficiency in controlling fisheries inspections?

EDit by Smudge: Sorry V8 I had to remove the quotes for this thread to remove some posts that a forum member found offensive. Smudge out.

Hmmmmm. I do not care who he is. If the article and facts contained within it are genuine, what is your problem?
If true, then MPI could indeed claim to be under resourced and use this as an excuse for inaction.
Same thing has happened with DOC. The people who actually are of benefit have been hacked to the bone and all we get now is platitudes and excuses from overpaid non productive management.

I'll action that right away Steady. I doubt they mean any harm, they certainly don't strike me as thugs. I'll remind them of the site rules by which we should all comply. Meanwhile, remember we have a Fisheries Management  Forum for these issues. I can't keep moving them. I will move this one and subsequent posts to the correct forum from now on.
