Its time that people such as this environmentalist are recognised for awards, does more than the likes of those Sandford individuals who got some self appointed sustainability award or some of those who get New Zealander of the Year.

Great story Al.

How do you go about nominating a bloke like that for a gong?

Seems like such an unassuming bloke too - very cool.

Well done Fraser - thanks for the link.

My nomination is in.
I nominated Local Hero, but you guys decide for yourself.

There is a bit of a drama trying to fill in all his details etc. as I don't know this guy from a bar of soap, but I contacted a very efficient person in Takapauna who can do the nomination on your behalf.

Just need to have your name and contact details.

Here is the info below.

Drop her an e-mail and nominate Bill Kerrison.
I also added the link to this video so she could see what i was on about.

Lets try do something for this bloke as a collective group on here - really think he deserves some recognition for this.

Anyway, that's my take on it.

Thumbs Up

Thanx Jaapie & Fraser for initiating the process, which hopefully will be successful as a result.
Towards that aim, perhaps it would be helpful to co ordinate the category in which to lodge the nomination from the choice below :-

Please advise what category:

New Zealander of the Year

Young NZer of the Year

Senior NZer of the Year

Community Group of the Year

Innovator of the Year

Local Hero of the Year

Personally I chose either of the two ( in red ) above as being the most appropriate & stand the best chance of being successful.

Yeah Capt. so did I altho I think only one can qualify for final selection
& presumably it will be the category that receives the most nominations.

A man of insight ,passion and dedication. Need more of that caliber in N.Z. Recognition for achievement is overdue

To hear they used to take eels and bury them in the local tip.

It is true-there are really people out there whose brain would fit into a neutron with space left over.

Thanks for posting that Al. It made my day.Smile

Hey Mahgre2, if you know the guy well enough, perhaps you could nominate him for NZ honours, like an MNZM or something?
I put the link for that up at the top of the thread, but it has to come from folks that know him personally I think....

Yes, but a NZ Honour or Medal is very different to a local hero award Dougy.

She said I could choose what award I wanted to nominate. so no difference.
I just figured he'd have a better chance at local rather than trying to compete against fellow kiwi's that help humans.

From Eugenie Sage,green party.

Yes Bill is amazing. You could nominate him for a New Year honour for services to conservation. See http://www.dpmc.govt.nz/honours" rel="nofollow - www.dpmc.govt.nz/honours for how to do it. You need supporting letters from a few organisations/ individuals. I would be happy to write a letter if someone organised the rest of the forms. It's a rewarding thing to do for someone.

Yep, exactly what I was saying, but I think it needs someone with a more intimate knowledge of him than just a casual video viewer....that's why if anyone does know the guy, and can get in touch with others in his community, then I think it would be a great thing for them to do. Guy really does need an MNZM I reckon.
