Hi All, I'm currently looking for a reel to go on my newly purchased CD slow jig 150-250 g rod. Main reels being considered: Shimano Trinidad 10a Poseidon 200R or 150R Trini's are tried and tested, I know that. Trini's have a 10 year warranty, and excellent after sales service in NZ, I know that. Trini's also have a price tag of $499 (currently). Poseidons - very little information online. Some people on here seem to like them. Not sure about warranty or after sales service?Claims of 30 kgs of drag.... really?? Major plus, price: $350 (ish). Anyway, what I want to know... Can people who own or have used the Poseidon reels please give me some feedback on them? Are they great? Not so great? Do they stand the test of time? I'm really tempted, but there are so many positives about the Shimano, I'm not sure it's worth taking the gamble... that's where your feedback is vital! finally, there would be one other reel I'd like to look into, but seems non-existent in NZ (not to mention another price bracket higher than the Trini, around $700): ACCURATE VALIANT BV-300 REEL Any and all feedback welcome, and very much appreciated! Thanks in advance team.

Hi Matt, the Accurate BV300 is certainly available here Decoro have them & are fantastic little reels with 10kg of smooth drag with full free spool (can you really imaging putting more than that over your slow jig rod) you can easily get 300m of PE3 on them & currently you get two years free servicing when you register them. Contact Kane at Decoro or PM him on here (jig master) Not cheap but best reel in its class IMO ------------- Tight lines PE Pete |

I'm reasonably sure the Poseidons are another brand for gear from Weihai Lianfu, a Chinese OEM/rebrander. I could be miles off the mark but they look to be damn near identical. They can be had for less than $300 if you buy direct, no idea if they're any good - presumably they will have stainless gears and lots of bearings but that may not be any indicator of quality. Honestly I'd go for an Omoto Vortex 12N before I bought a Weihai Lianfu reel, Fishing NZ does them (fnzl.co.nz) - last time I got a price they were cheap as and I know they're decently put together. Trinidad is always going to be good, you pay a bit more for it. Likewise the Accurate. Also I'll chuck in as a dark horse the Okuma Andros 5N, should be able to get your hands on one for $400 and they're nice smooth reels, 11kg of drag if you want it, light, well built, infinite A/R, blah blah... "budget" alternative to Accurate in my opinion.

| Doing a bit of research last night I came across the Maxel Hybrid 20, which seem like pretty well spec'd reels, and similar price to the Trinidad. Anyone got experience with these? |

Iv pinched one of Caveman's Posidens reels the 150R very nice reel for the price. Im normally a Shimano diawa fan boy but this lil hunny is sweet. Going to take it for a good run tomorrow ------------- http://www.facebook.com/hauraki.hillbillys |

I own the 200R, 300R & the 500R built like a brick sh.thouse. 500R was serviced recently, was told still looked brand new inside. Drag is probably more like 24kg, thru out all sizes... owned 500R for over a year used in March with Capt Phil, pulled a few Kings & puka.. Kings ave was 21kg never missed a beat. Drags were smooth as on all reels. Trini's ok but would take Poseidon over them any day... Do I like em Hell Yeah am considering selling my JM pe5 so can buy another 500....I have a trini 10a is a nice softbait reel  just had to try it, this is the 200 on an ocean devil. loved it.
